Alex Lloyd (basketball)
Alexander Lloyd (born January 15, 2006) is an American college basketball player for the Florida Gators of the Southeastern Conference.
Early life
Lloyd was born in Miami, Florida to Oliver and Pamela Lloyd. He began playing AAU basketball in middle school, where he would frequently face off against future college teammate and roommate CJ Ingram. Attending Westminster Academy, Lloyd became a starting combo guard for the team. In his junior season, he averaged 19.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game before being named Broward County 4A-2A Boys Basketball Player of the Year, an honor once shared by brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson. During his senior season, he averaged 27.9 points per game.
Recruiting
Lloyd was a consensus 4-star recruit and was pursued by multiple power conference teams. He held offers from FSU, Miami (FL), St. John's, Dayton, Florida Atlantic, IUPUI, and Florida Gulf Coast before eventually committing to Florida on April 17, 2024 and signing onto the program on November 14, 2024.
College career
Lloyd joined Florida immediately following their national championship the prior year. The transfer arrivals of Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee meant that Lloyd served primarily as a rotation player during his freshman season.
