Alberto Arebalos

Alberto Arebalos a corporate executive, journalist, author, and is currently the Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Google in Latin America. Arebalos was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1961.

Education

Alberto Arebalos studied sociology at the University of Buenos Aires and Social Communication at the University of El Salvador.

Career

Alberto Arebalos started out as a journalist in 1984, working with the Spanish news agency EFE as editor of the agency’s office in Buenos Aires. In 1987, he was hired as a correspondent for Reuters news agency in Buenos Aires, thrn from 1989 to 1992 in Bogota and from 1992-1994 in Caracas. As a reporter, Arebalos specialized in danger, covering the Medellin [...] cartel in Colombia and the rise of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. In April of 1994, Arebalos was named editor in chief for the region, making him the youngest regional editor, based in Miami.

In 1998, Arebalos became Vice President of the Fleishman-Hillard agency in Miami and in 1999 at Citigate Dewe Rogerson, New York. Then in 2000, he became head of Cisco Systems Public Relations for Latin America.

In June 2007, Alberto Arebalos joined Google as Director of Global Communications and Public Affairs.

In 2008, Arebalos co-wrote the book “La revolución horizontal: El poder de la comunicación en manos de la gente” (“The Horizontal Revolution: The Power of Communication in the Hands of the People”) with Gonzalo Alonso. The book examines the evolution of communication and the internet, exploring social networking and other new technologies.
