SPIRITUALIZATION AND Islamization_of_knowledge

Education Spiritualization is a unique feature of the Al-Azhar Syifa Budi, where education is carried out not only in accordance with national and international curriculum, but where we have also established integration with Islamic education. We have eliminated borders among all subjects by presenting lesson material based on Islamic values, but we also teach our students to use that knowledge for the greater good of the society. Al-Azhar SB is producing its learning materials based on this concept. For Al-Azhar Syifa Budi, Islamizing knowledge means to reorder data, to rethink the reasoning relating to these data, to re-evaluate the conclusions, to reproject the goals and to do this in such a way as to make the disciplines enrich the vision and serve the cause of Islam. To this end, the five methodological categories of Islam, namely, the Unity of Allah, the Unity of creation, the Unity of truth and knowledge, the Unity of life and the Unity of humanity must replace the western categories for perusing and ordering reality. In essence, Islamisation of knowledge is the union of two systems in order to expected to bring Islamic knowledge to the secular (Islamising the secular) and modern knowledge to the Islamic system (updating the traditions).

Islamisation of modern empirical knowledge is in fact an effort to assimilate this knowledge in an Islamic framework with a view to using this knowledge for the greater good of society. It is an attempt to understand and perhaps adopt all that is good in this knowledge by integrating it with traditional Islamic knowledge.

The following are some practical practices used by teachers to Islamize the content of lessons.

I . . Impress to pupils that ALLAH is the source of all knowledge.
S . . Stress Allah’s attributes and His favours to man.
L . . Link the present lesson with the basic tenets of Islam.
A . . Acknowledge always man’s amanah and his accountability.
M . . Motivate learners to model themselves on our Beloved Nabi r.
I . . Inculcate Islamic values, morals and attributes in learners.
   Z . . Zero-in on the importance of Shari’ah in man’s relationship with society.
A . . Assess Islamically all acquired knowledge before accepting it.
T . . Train and tutor the learners’ spiritual development.
I . . Integrate into lessons relevant references from the Qur’an and Sunnah.
O . . Obey Allah’s will and contemplate His rahmah.
N . . Notice how the needs of man can be fulfilled by Islam.
