Aidan Collins (irish footballer)

Aidan Collins (born March 22 1984 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish footballer currently unattached. Aidan plays as a central defender and also has experience playing in midfield.

Career

Aidan began his senior career at Bohemians and made his debut for the club on the last day of the 2004 season in a 1-1 draw against Cork City. Despite numerous impressive performances for Bohs, the prospect of regular first team football at Dalymount Park was unachievable for Collins due to persistent injuries. Collins became surplus to requirements at Bohemians for the 2007 season and as a result he made the short journey across the northside of Dublin to sign for rivals Shelbourne in February 2007. Despite his injury problems of the past, some Bohs fans were not pleased to hear that Collins been allowed to leave on a permanent deal. Collins made his Shelbourne league debut against Kilkenny City at Buckley Park on March 30 2007. Collins' first goal for Shelbourne was a stunning 25 yard strike against Limerick 37 at Tolka Park on September 1 2007, the first goal of a 4-0 victory for Shels. His time at Shelbourne had been frustrating, with good form being broken up by injuries. Collins' season was hampered by niggling injuries including a dislocated shoulder suffered against Kildare County in May 2007 which ruled the defender out of action for 3 months. Despite showing numerous flashes of his undoubted talent, Collins was released by Shelbourne at the end of the 2007 season. Collins made 18 league and cup appearances and scored one goal during the 2007 Season for Shelbourne.
