Honoring Flags of Represented Countries

The African Students Convention 2005 (ASC) was the first official gathering of African Government delegates and African students in Malaysia to discuss issues pertinent to the future of African youths held by the African Students in Diaspora and INTI International University College on the January 8, 2005 under the chairmanship of Mr. Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret. The event took place at Mary'ek Hall Kuching, Sarawak,Malaysia. It attracted over 800 Students from around Malaysia plus visiting delegations from Nigeria,Namibia,Libya, China, Australia, Indonesia and some other African countries. It was one of the biggest event for the African Students in Malaysia.

ASC Themed Effect of Skilled Migration on Economic Development – A global Perspective. was to discuss issues pertinent to Africa and explore the vision of the future of our Youth and the harmonization of the economic, political and educational strata in Africa

Seminar

As the event kick on, The first section of the seminar was presented by Prof. Suleyman Aremu Muyibi from University of Malaya on The Effect of Brain Drain or Skilled Labour Migration on Economic Development: A Global Perspective with a full participation and Q and A from all the audiences. He addressed issues on the effect of brain drain and reminded the African government officials on the great need of creating incentives and stable political and economic platform that will make it possible for our skilled,Africans abroad to return home. He warned that many skilled Laborers migrate overseas due to insecurity and instability of our political system. He urged the Africans to build a stable political and economic system to address the matter.

Later in the day, the second speaker, Dr. Julie Wee from INTI International University College, Malaysia presented Issues related to globalization and the internationalization of education – building your personal capacity to contribute to your country of origin. In her speech, she reminded African students the need to develop the potentials and to be ready to contribute to the growth of their country.

Our Guest of Honour, Deputy chief minister Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam who launched the event later said that the increasing number of foreign students studying in public and private higher learning institutions in Malaysia has brought positive impact to the country and the presence of Africans in Malaysia had further enriched the multiracial mosaic of this country .

The chairman of the event Mr. Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret in his speech also stress the need of African solution to African problem and calling on the government officials to invest on African Students and youth for a long term solution in solving African problem.

Organisation

Leadership is by the African Students organizing committee coordinated, typically , by their chairman Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret with the University support and assistance.

INTI university campus and its accommodation has been the base for the event. A range of accommodation options were offered, ranging from camping in tents to live-in accommodation and billeting.

They were a lot of events in between and an exotic dance and drama performed by the African students from INTI University College and other Universities in attendance.
