Adventure for Youth
Adventure for Youth (abbreviated as AFY) is a week long youth program that is offered through Community Connections at BYU-Idaho. AFY is based on fostering faith-building and life-changing learning, based on the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. AFY activities include CES instructor devotionals, a temple baptism session, dances, ropes course initiatives, white water rafting, and other activities.
The Future of AFY
Due to the increase in the number of students at BYU-Idaho, the Community Connections Department (the department that facilitates AFY) resources are being reassigned to other areas on campus. We will no longer be able to offer many of the programs that we used to provide.
Community Connections would like to thank you for your past support of this and our other programs. We have had many enjoyable years and appreciate the contributions and value that you brought to our programs. If you are still interested in this type of program, we suggest that you look for other alternatives provided by BYU-Idaho or the community.
AFY Activities
Adventure for Youth (AFY) is a program that focuses on teaching "For The Strength of Youth" principles through experiential learning. Activities appeal to youth who prefer doing hands on activities.
Mission Statement
The purpose of Adventure For Youth (AFY) is to encourage youth to draw closer to the Savior by acting on true principles, participating in adventure activities, and seeking an excellent balance in all things.
Participation at AFY
Youth
Each youth is assigned to a group that they are with every day, for the duration of the week. The purpose of the small groups is to have the youth to grow spiritually, make friends, and set goals on how to become the best person they can be.
Registration is available for youth ages 14â18. Adventure for Youth is a limited enrollment program that accepts only 96 participants per week-long session. The enrollment is limited because of the adventure itinerary. There are two locations where AFY is offered, the campus BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho and the campus of Utah State University in Logan, Utah.
Counselors
Counselors are typically college aged young adults. Adventure for Youth is based around the personal interaction that youth are able to have with their counselor. Staff are required to be in good standing in the community and church. Counselors live on-site adjacent to youth apartments for the duration of the program.
