Adventure Breaks
Adventure Breaks is a Goa, India-based adventure sports operator that specialises in adventures along the coast, both sea-based and land-based. It also organises sports events. The company, set up in May 2013, organises ocean treks, rock climbing on seaside cliffs, kayaking in backwater mangroves and out to sea, sailing in wind-powered boats, long-distance swimming in the sea, and adventure cycling.
Tours offered
Tower Runs
On 1 February 2014, Adventure Breaks organised India's first Tower Run (a stair climbing race), along five seven-storeyed buildings in the Patto business district of Goa's capital city, Panaji. It has already announced that it will organise Mumbai's first Tower Run on Sunday 23 November 2014, as well as the 2nd Goa Tower Run on Sunday 18 January 2015. Other sports events in the pipeline are a Full Moon Beach Marathon on Saturday 8 November in South Goa, and a 'Mega Mandovi Swim' (crossing Panaji's Mandovi River) on Sunday 26 October 2014.
Ocean Treks
The group organises two 'Ocean Treks' walks along wooded hillsides overlooking the sea off the coast of Goa and coastal Maharashtra. These treks, led by qualified guides, enable participants to access completely deserted virgin beaches in isolated coves. At present, it offers two treks. One is in coastal Maharashtra, in the Nivti area, between Vengurla and Malvan, while the other is from the popular Palolem Beach in Goa to Agonda Beach, via the isolated Butterfly Beach.
Kayaking
It also conducts kayaking trips in backwater mangrove forests, river explorations, and outings to small deserted beaches and islands. These are conducted on French and Australian sit-on-top kayaks, led by experienced guides. One of its more challenging kayaking expeditions is to observe crocodiles from up close, with a rescue boat on standby. A popular outing is Full Moon Kayaking on Goa's rivers and bays, on full moon NiGHTS.
Sailing
Adventure Breaks offers sailing expeditions in its 18-foot Mini-Cabin Cruiser and 21-foot Seabird sailing boats. The boats are wind-powered, with an outboard motor in case of emergencies. Most popular are its Sunset Sails, two-hour outings in the evening to observe the sun set over the sea. It also offers Day Sails; half-day sails to beaches and full-day sails to islands off Goa, as well as Overnight Sails to the popular Morjim and Hollant beaches.
Sea Swimming
To make swimming in the sea accessible for enthusiasts, Adventure Breaks offers long sea swims in the safe and clean waters off Goa in complete safety. Swimmers are given personal buoyancy devices, and are accompanied by kayaks and rescue boats for safety. Among the more popular routes FOR Swimming are Dona Paula to Bambolim Beach (5 km), Mormugao Harbour to Dona Paula (6 km), Dona Paula to Miramar Beach (6 km), Siridao Chapel to Bambolim Beach (3 km), San Jacinto Island to Siridao Beach (3 km) and Baina Beach round Pequeno Island and back (4 km).
Rock Climbing
The company offers rock climbing on an artificial climbing wall with a large profusion of holds, yielding routes from the easy to the most technically difficult, as well as at a picturesque riverside quarry at Chapora, that offers good routes. The company's website says that enthusiastic rock climbers can even pioneer climbs. There is also a bolted route at Vagator. On the seashore, this site can only be accessed at low tide. Jug handle holds make this partly overhanging route climbable and challenging.
Cycling
Adventure Breaks offers cycling outings along Goa's coast and interiors. These include day trips and well as itineraries stretching to four days. These trips are conducted on geared hybrid bicycles, and are accompanied by cars with bicycle stands, in case of emergencies.
