Adnan Farah
Adnan Farah (1955 -) is a Jordanian psychologist and Internationally recognized pioneer in the field of Counseling Psychology in the Hashemite Kingdome of Jordan. He is a former President for the Jordanian Psychological Association (JPA).
Education & Clinical Training
Dr. Farah received his B.A degree in Education from the University of Jordan in 1978. Pursued his higher education in the USA where he earned a master's degree in Clinical Psychology in 1982, and a Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology in 1987. Dr. Farah received his training in community Clinical Psychology at St. Joseph Hospital and was employed as mental health counselor at the psychiatric unit in Bellaire General Hospital, and has worked as a psychotherapist at Deer Park Psychiatric Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Academic career
He started his academic career as an assistant professor at Yarmouk University in Jordan in 1987. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 1994 and to rank of Professor in 2004. He was appointed Vice Dean of Student Affair in 2003 and Chairman of Psychology Department in 2004 at Yarmouk University in Jordan. He worked at Qatar University between 1995 and 1999, where he was appointed Head of Mental Department for two years.
Achievements
Dr. Farah has contributed to the regulation of the profession of Applied psychology in Jordan. He was a founding member of the Jordanian Psychological Association and was the president of this association for three terms. He also was a member of the "Licensing Committee for the Psychological Professions" at the Jordanian Ministry of Health.
He was chosen by the International Union of Psychological Science as eminent Jordanian Psychologist to be the president for the 2nd Middle East and North Africa Regional conference of Psychology, which was held in Amman in 2007, under the auspices of the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS).
Professor Farah has published and presented more than 40 professional papers in the field of counseling Psychology. He was invited as a quest speaker to different scientific meetings such as the 1st MENARCP-Dubai in 2003, the 29th International Congress of Psychology-Berlin in 2008, and the School of Medicine at Harvard University in 2005.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an Honorary Research Fellowship in the International Center for Interpersonal Relationship Research ICIRR \Brazil, the Leadership Award from the American institute for Counseling and Psychotherapy Services, and an Honorary Membership in the International Society for Child Abuse & Neglect (ISPCAN).
Current Position
In 2008, Dr. Farah started a position as visiting professor of Counseling Psychology at Bahrain University.
