Adam Kalinowski
Adam Kalinowski (born in Poznan, Poland in 1959) is a Polish visual artist, author of outdoor projects and texts AbOUT art. He consider work of an artist as an inventor according to J.Cage than working in some particular art stylistic. His works and projects from 90's and also created after 2000 related to some aspects of kinetic sculpture where important issue was meditative factor of “being lifted in the middle of time and space for the viewer-participant”, as artist stated in his text from 2000. During last decade and also currently his works and projects relates to Public Art, Earth art (Land Art), social sculpture defined by Joseph Beuys who was a member of Fluxus movement. and to some issues of Environmental sculpture.
Biography
Son of two Polish abstract painters Tadeusz Kalinowski (1909-1997) and Anna Cyronek-Kalinowska (1919-2008). In 1977-1981 he assisted in Akumulatory 2 Gallery in Poznan run by conceptual artist Jaroslaw Kozlowski. Studied Cultural Anthropology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan MA in 1986. MA at Ministry of Culture, Departament of Visual Arts, Warsaw in 1992. In 1998 he established Tadeusz Kalinowski Art Foundation (Fundacja Artystyczna im Tadeusza Kalinowskiego).
He was a performer during FLUXUS FESTIVAL, Three Days of Fun and Fourth at the Flux Clinic, that took place in Akumulatory 2 Gallery in 1977 and in other activities of the gallery like Fluxus performances of Eric Anderson in 1983 and in 1984 in Krzystofory Gallery in Krakow and others. His early works and activities were related to Fluxus. He created objects and text based works. In 1989 produced radio happening “Minute of Silence” in Wroclaw (Festival LiteraAkcje) and in 1992 in local radio Mercury in Poznan. He wrote extensive paper devoted to Fluxus attitude and practice partly published as FLUXUS MYTHOLOGY in OBIEG in 1991. In 2000 he took part in the documentary film which was a reconstruction of FLUXUS FESTIVAL, Three Days of Fun and Fourth at the Flux Clinic 1977, Akumulatory 2 Gallery titled: "FLUXUS; THE MEETING", produced by Grazyna Banaszkiewicz ("Spotkanie: FLUXUS" – o awangardowym ruchu artystycznym lat 60. i 70. w Europie) for Polish Public TV Warsaw, Poland.
He is a recipient of Krasner Pollock Foundation 2001, USA; Kosciuszko Foundation, 2002, USA, and Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2001, 2004, 2010. He has been awarded with prizes(Bronze Prize at The 10th International Design competition, Osaka 2001, Japan) and art residencies in US (VCCA, ART/OMI, SCULPTURE SPACE, I-PARK, DJERASSI FOUNDATION), Brazil, FAAP, UK, Art Gene, AIR, Austria. His works are in collections of Center of Polish Sculpture, in Orońsko, Poland, The Leon Wyczółkowski Muzeum, Bydgoszcz, Poland, Japan Design Foundation, Osaka, Japan, ELEKTROWNIA MCSW in Radom and in private collections.
