Activa International Insurance Ghana (officially Activa International Insurance Company (GH) Ltd) is a private non-life insurance company

headquartered in Accra, Ghana. Established in 2005, the company provides short-term general insurance to corporate entities, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and individual clients. It is the Ghanaian subsidiary of Pan-African insurance conglomerate, Group Activa and is a founding member of the Globus Network, an international association of insurers spanning over 40 African countries.

History

The company was formed in 2005 as Global Alliance Insurance Company Ltd, then a subsidiary of Global Alliance Holdings. In 2009, Activa Insurance Company, based in Cameroon, acquired 100% stake in the company, leading to a rebrand to Activa International Insurance Ghana. In 2015, ownership moved to Activa Finance in Mauritius.

Operations and Services

Activa Ghana is licensed by the National Insurance Commission to provide general insurance along corporate, commercial, and personal lines. According to a 2022 report conducted by the Business and Financial Times, Activa was the 8th largest insurer by premium income. Together with the International Finance Corporation, Activa Insurance launched Activ'Lady to insure women entrepreneurs in Ghana.

Awards

At the third Association of Ghanaian Industry awards, Activa Insurance was honored as the Best Financial Services (Insurance) Company. Again in 2017, it won the Insurance Company of the Year award in the Ghana Accountancy and Finance Awards. Activa was adjudged cedant of the year in the General Business Category of the Ghana Reinsurance Awards by the Ghana Reinsurance Company in 2015 and 2017 respectively. Activa Insurance is a member of Ghana Club 100.

Leadership

Activa International Insurance was led by Stephen Kyeremanteng from 2009 until his retirement in 2017. He was succeeded by Solomon Lartey in 2017 until the appointment of Benjamin Yamoah in 2020. In February 2026, Salifu Abubakari was appointed as acting managing Director.
