Action Sports Cricket Inter Provincial Tournaments

The Inter Provincial Tournaments are the premier national championship of both men's, women's and mixed categories of the South African Yearly tournaments Indoor Cricket. These event are organised by the sport's governing body, the South African Indoor Cricket Federation (SAICF) and is held every year. The first Inter Provincial tournament was won by Gauteng in 1985.

The tournaments are broken down into 5 tournaments namely:

1. Opens – (Mens Opens, Ladies Opens, Mixed Opens and Mixed Over 30s)
2. Masters – (O30 Mens, Over 40 Mens, Over 45 Mens, Over 30 Ladies and Over 35 Ladies)
3. Unders – (U19 Mens, U23 Mens, U30/O23 Mens, U19 Ladies and U23 Ladies)
4. Juniors – (U10 Mens, U11 Mens, U13 Mens, U15 Mens, U17 Mens)
5. Vets – (O50 Mens)

All Star Teams are selected on the basis of having an excellent performanace. National teams are selected the preceding year for the various World Cups which are held every 3 years. These are the age groups with the Junior World Series of Indoor Cricket and the Opens Indoor Cricket World Cup and the Masters Masters Indoor Cricket World Cup held at similar intervals.

The World Series is contested by the members of the WICF (though member nations have not always entered teams) and beyond being an affiliated member of that body there are no formal qualifications for entry. Up to and including 2009, Australia have been the most successful side having won every division with the exception of the Over 30 Women in 2008.

Tournament Format

Whilst the precise nature of the tournament has varied slightly over the years, each tournament usually follows a simple round robin format followed by finals contested by the highest placed sides.

The tournament usually takes place over the course of 4 to 6 days.
