Acting School North
Acting School North is an independent drama school in Leeds, Yorkshire, which opened in 2009.
Principal
The school is run by Sorcha Donaldson, who graduated with a Diploma in Acting (Distinction) in 2004 from Birmingham School of Acting, and a BA (Hons) in Drama with Cultural Studies from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999. She made her acting debut aged nine whilst on tour with her mother, the actress Mary Ann Reid. She made her directorial debut with The Rocking-Horse Winner by D. H. Lawrence at the age of 17.
Method
The school follows a technique established by drama theoretician Rogelio Nevares, from the Stanislavsky methodology. Rogelio Nevares trained at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, All-Russia State University of Cinematography, under Yuri Ilyashevsky, Anatoly Romashin and Aleksey Batalov, among others. He has taught at Birmingham School of Acting, SLP College Leeds, where he was Vice Principal & Head of Acting, Escuela Nacional de Arte Teatral, Colegio de Literatura Dramatica y Teatro de la Facultad de Filosofia y Letras en la Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (the latter two in Mexico City), Arts University Bournemouth and finally in the school which he founded and directed for more than seven years: Escuela Rusa de Actuacion en Mexico. As Roger Nevares he played the part of Padre Galvan in the Oscar and Golden Globe nominated film by Carlos Carrera El crimen del Padre Amaro. Rogelio Nevares was born in Monterrey, Mexico and is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK.
