Acharya Habba

Acharya Habba is the annual culfest (cultural festival) of the Acharya Institute of Technology in Bangalore. It is a three-day event held in the month of March or April each year. It draws AbOUT 30,000 students from more than 300 colleges from across Bangalore and Karnataka.

The festival also includes the Acharya International Habba, usually on the first or the second day, that has performances by the international students studying in the campus.

Etymology

The word "Acharya Habba" derives from the Kannada word "ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಹಬ್ಬಾ" — from ಆಚಾರ್ಯ (Acharya), meaning "Acharya Institutes", and ಹಬ್ಬಾ (Habba), meaning "festival". So, collectively the word "Acharya Habba" means the festival of Acharya Institutes.

History

Started in 2005 as an intra-collegiate cultural fest, Acharya Habba has grown into one of the largest inter-collegiate festivals in Bangalore and Karnataka. The 2011 edition of the culfest witnessed Ragini Dwivedi, RJ Prithvi from Radio One and Vinapra cheering up the crowd. Singer Benny Dayal along with his band performed on the April 9, last night, of Acharya Habba 2011.

Career Habba

Started on March 5 in 2007, the event is attended by about 16,000 students from more than 100 colleges across the state of Karnataka. The event generated over 2300 jobs from 60 recruiting companies.

Ethnic day

The Ethnic day marks the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic nature of the institution. The students dress up in their traditional attires highlighting their region/culture of origin.

Habba marathon

The marathon is a prelude to Acharya Habba. Both students and instructors take part in this event. The marathon covers about , from Bagalkunte to the Acharya Institutes campus.

Media cup

The "media cup" is a cricket tournament organised at the Smt.Nagarathnama Stadium in the Acharya Institute campus. Various TV channels and other media outlets take part in this event. In the 2011 edition, Sri Sankara TV emerged as the winners, beating Udaya TV by five wickets in the final.
