Academy of CAD/CAM Dentistry
Academy of CAD/CAM Dentistry (ACCD), (Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing in Dentistry), is a network of dental professionals dedicated to the unbiased advancement of digital and computerized technologies used in the practice of restorative, cosmetic and rehabilitative dentistry for the public good. The ACCD is the only professional dental organization which offers a peer-reviewed credentialing program relating to chairside dental CAD/CAM technology usage.
History
CAD/CAM usage in Dentistry began in the mid 1980's. The Academy has always focused on the betterment of technologies and techniques as they relate to dental CAD/CAM usage, whether this addressed it's usage by dentists or dental laboratory technicians. Training and education relating to all aspects of CAD/CAM Dentistry and related technologies has always been the forte of the Academy. Traditionally, the Academy has sponsored an annual scientific session relating to CAD/CAM usage. Membership consists of hundreds of dental health professionals throughout the world with an acute interest in computerized delivery of dental care.
The ACCD emerged from the ACDNA (Academy of Computerized Dentistry of North America) when it was decided that an unbiased review of all dental CAD/CAM technologies would serve the profession and the public better than solely around the original chairside CAD/CAM model, CEREC.
Recent changes incorporated by the Academy Board in 2009 broaden the Acedemy's purview into any and all technologies relating to digital dentistry, not just the traditional chairside CAD/CAM technologies such as CEREC and E4D
