A letter addressing the whole Party, the entire military and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups is a joint proclamation issued by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, the State Council of the People's Republic of China, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commission of the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Republic of China. It is used to formally announce the death of the Party and State’s supreme leader. Its status is higher than that of ordinary obituaries issued for political leaders or prominent public figures.
History
In the history of the Chinese Communist Party and the History of the People's Republic of China, the death of the Party and State’s supreme leader has been officially announced in the form of a A letter addressing the whole Party, the entire military and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups on three occasions:
- Mao Zedong: 9 September 1976
- Deng Xiaoping: 19 February 1997
- Jiang Zemin: 30 November 2022
The A letter addressing the whole Party, the entire military and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups is generally first released as a news bulletin by Xinhua News Agency, then broadcast by China Media Group, and published in major newspapers the following day. In radio and television broadcasts:
- The 9 September 1976 letter was first broadcast on the afternoon of the same day by announcer Xia Qing of China National Radio
- The 19 February 1997 letter was first broadcast in the early hours of the following day by announcer Luo Jing of China Central Television
- The 30 November 2022 letter was first broadcast on the evening of the same day by announcer Pan Tao of China Central Television
