9.5×39mm
The brainchild of Novice Wildcatter Aleksandr Kolesnikov of Houston, TX the 9.5×39mm was designed to place the largest diameter bullet into the 7.62×39mm case. The modest case capacity meant that this is an ideal choice for subsonic charges.
Cartridge dimensions
The 9.5×39mm has 2.31 ml (35.6 grains H2O) cartridge case capacity.
According to the official C.I.P. (Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives) guidelines, the 7.62×39mm case can handle up to 355 MPa (51,488 psi) piezo pressure. In C.I.P. regulated countries every rifle cartridge combo has to be proofed at 125% of this maximum C.I.P. pressure to certify for sale to consumers.
The SAAMI Maximum Average Pressure (MAP) for this cartridge is piezo pressure.
Hunting and sport use
This cartridge has enjoyed some success in use against Javalina. Its broad frontal area, heavy weight and ease of follow-up shots from a Semi-automatic action equate to success against these invasive and highly aggressive predators.
