5x Racing
5x Racing is an SCCA Spec Miata race team based out of Central Florida. The race team was formed in early 2006 by John Adamczyk and his father Richard Adamczyk. Although it is a family run team, the Adamczyk's needed a name to gain popularity, as John Adamczyk is determined to work his way up the ladder in sportscar racing. The name "5x Racing" was inspired by Rick Adamczyk's former IOGP (International Outboard Grand Prix) race boat number, which was 5, and is also John's longtime favorite number for that very reason. The "x" in 5x Racing does not have any real significance, but can be thought of as an unknown variable as in math terms. The "racing" in 5x Racing obviously signifies that it is a race team. 5x Racing began its racing in February 2006 with Johns completion of the SCCA All-in-One Driver School at Roebling Road Raceway. John acquired his competition license in winning fashion, by posting top practice and qualifying times, he also won one out of two races that completed the weekend. It is also noted that John accomplished this in a home built racecar with over 211,000 miles on the car. The car was completed just days before the school began. 5x Racing, with John Adamczyk behind the wheel competed in 4 additional race weekends totaling 9 races to finish out the 2006 Southeast Division SCCA and Central Florida Region SCCA race season. John used the same racecar, with over 212,000 miles on the motor and driveline for the remainder of the 2006 season and the beginning of the 2007 season until taking a "rebuild" break in March of 07'. For the remainder of the 2007 season John will campaign in the South Atlantic Road Racing Championship (SARRC) and Central Florida Region races.
Forms of Racing
5x Racing competes in SCCA (Sportscar Club of America) Club Racing events in the Southeastern United States. SCCA Club Racing is an important stepping stone for most aspiring sportscar racers and veterans alike, it provides an opportunity for race fans and car aficionados to compete in production, or purpose built racecars on Americas most famous road courses. The SCCA provides many classes for all types of sportscars, from 150hp Volkswagen GTI Rabbits to 400hp Ferrari's, there is a class for everybody in the SCCA. The SCCA has a two tier approach to amateur racing, the entry level Regional classes and the Semi-Pro National class. 5x Racing competes in the ultra-popular Spec Miata class, which allows the use of all years Mazda Miata roadsters with allowed modifications to compete in wheel to wheel competition. The "spec" in Spec Miata means that there is very limited modifications allowed. All competitors must use the same suspension kit, same tires, STOCK engines, and each model year has a specific race weight it must comply to. There are some modifications allowed that are not regulated, such as ignition timing, exhaust, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and suspension settings. The general saying for Spec Miata is: "If the rules don't say you can do it, it's not allowed!" 5x Racing also has a Sportsman Class Stockcar in the family, which when completed will be raced at local circle tracks across Central Florida.
Future
The future for 5x Racing is bright. As far as the racing goes, Rick Adamczyk has acquired his SCCA racing license as of February 2007 and is currently building a 1995 Spec Miata racecar to compete in Southeast Division SCCA Races alongside John Adamczyk. John Adamczyk is still gaining experience and developing his 1991 Spec Miata racecar in hopes of competing in SCCA National Competition in 2008. John and Rick are planning to create a business out of 5x Racing in the near future, which will sell race parts online and fabricate high-end Spec Miata racecars.
