48 Go Green

48 Go Green is an ecologically-themed international filmmaking competition. Teams create a short (four to seven minute) film during the 48 hours of the competition. Each team is assigned a randomly generated ecological theme, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue. The entirety of the production of the film takes place during the 48 hours of competition.

History

2009

Executive Producer Francesco Vitali and Producer Christos Siametis created 48 Go Green Athens as a pilot project after their work at 48 Hour Film Project in Athens. This program was created to be concurrent with the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

2011

48 Go Green 2011 became an international competition, headquartered in Cyprus. There were online events being held concurrent to physical events in key cities throughout the world. Winning films were shown in the Short Film Corner of Cannes International Film Festival. The change from the live event meant that 330 teams from 125 cities worldwide were able to participate.

After the 2011 competition, Vitali and Siametis broke ties with 48 Hour Film and began to operate 48 Go Green independently.

2012

48 Go Green 2012’s competition brought more changes to the competition. The host city component was dropped, and the competition was held solely online. 2012’s 48 Go Green is divided into three groups. Group A was held March 28-30, 2012. Group B will be held from September 7-9, 2012. Group C will be held September 28-30. The top winners of the competition will have their film screened in Hollywood, California.
