3i-D Card
The 3i-D Card is a UK-based youth-led id and discount card.
Founding
The 3-iD card was developed by the East Sussex Youth Cabinet, in partnership with CitizenCard, local bus operators and East Sussex County Council. It was developed by the Youth Cabinet in response to the British Youth Council Make Your Mark priority of transport, which was voted highly locally.
It is operated by Project Participate, a company run by four ex-Youth Cabinet members.
Proof
The 3i-D card is PASS accredited. PASS is a nationally recognized proof of age scheme meaning that both the under 16 and 16-19 cards can be used as proof of age in shops, cinemas, and pubs and restaurants.
Travel
The 3i-D card is proof of age for under 16-year-olds, allowing them to take advantage of children's fares on buses.
Several local bus companies have offered child or discounted fares to holders of the 19-19 card.
Discounts
Due to a CitizenCard partnership with Love 2 Shop, cardholders are given a 7% bonus when they load money onto a Love 2 Shop card linked to their 3i-D card.
Expansion
Project Participate has worked to expand 3i-D to other areas. It is currently only available to young people in East Sussex.
Portsmouth
In 2013, Portsmouth Youth Parliament contacted Project Participate to try and launch a scheme locally. After nine months of meetings, Portsmouth City Council withdrew their support of the scheme.
