28th MMC – Targovishte

28th MMC – Targovishte is a constituency in Bulgaria for elections to the National Assembly. It corresponds exactly to the boundaries of Targovishte Province.

Historically, the constituency has been a stronghold for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) due to the significant Turkish minority population in the region. In the June 2024 Bulgarian parliamentary election, the constituency elected 4 members to the 50th National Assembly: 3 from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and 1 from GERB-SDS.

Background

The 28th MMC – Targovishte was established in 1991 following the fall of communism and the adoption of the new Constitution of Bulgaria. The constituency retains the boundaries of Targovishte Province and generally allocates 4 seats to the National Assembly, making it one of the smaller constituencies in the country.
