2017 Sal Island Opening Tournament
The 2017 Sal Opening Tournament season was the competition of the Opening Tournament or the Association Cup (equivalent to a League Cup used in other countries, e.g. nearby Senegal) of football in the island of Sal, Cape Verde. All of the competition took place in late 2017, the Premier Division of the cup started on October 22 and finished on November 11 and the Second Division started on November 10, then it took a three-week hiatus before resuming on December 1, it finished on December 15. The tournament was organized by the Sal Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol do Sal, ARFS). SC Santa Maria won their second title for the season.
Overview
SC Santa Maria was the defending team of the title. A total of eight clubs competed in two groups, A and B in the competition and challenged with a different club once in its three rounds. All of the clubs are also that will participate in its regional Premier Division later in December 2017. In the Premier Division, Group A consisted Santa Maria, Florença Santa Maria, Gaviões and ASGUI and Group B consisted of Académico do Aeroporto, Juventude, Palmeira de Santa Maria and Académica do Sal. The club finished first in each group qualifies into the final.
In the Premier Division, Santa Maria scored the most goals numbering 8, second was Juventude. A total of goals were scored.
In its Second Division, SC Verdun won the title for the season.
