The 2016–17 AD Ribeira Grande season were in the island division of football (soccer). The club was champion ahead of GD Varanda and both will qualify into the Premier Division for the following season, it will be the club's next appearance in four years.

Ribeira Grande started at the moderate positions before heading to first place in the mid-late part of the season and for the remainder of the season. Their first match of the season was their first ever match with Relâmpago, their second match was with Delta and their third was with Asa Grande, all ended in victories. In late March, the club became listed as champions and on April 9, finished first place.

Ribeira Grande started the season with a three match winning streak defeating Relâmpago (the Thunder) in their first ever match, then Delta and Asa Grande. Ribeira Grande had a loss to Tira Chapéu in their first ever match with that club, another three match winning streak was next and defeated Kumunidade in the year's first match, then they defeated Varanda and lastly Vila Nova. A goal draw with Unidos do Norte was made on January 28, then Ribeira Grande's last Second Division loss was made to Fiorentina Calabaceira. Two consecutive draws were followed, first to Relâmpago without any goals scored, then to Delta with a goal apiece. Ribeira Grande made another win over Asa Grande on February 25, Ribeira Grande's last draw of the season was made with Tira Chapéu which became Ribeira Grande's only club that dared to defeat. A five match winning streak was made where they defeated Kumunidade, Varanda, Vila Nova, Unidos do Norte and Fiorentina Calabaceira in their last match. Ribeira Grande won the Second Division championship and in five seasons, will once again play in the Premier Division for the following season alongside second placed Varanda.

Santiago South Zone Cup
Ribeira Grande faced Asa Grande in the first round and won 2-0. The club later headed to the round of 8 where they faced with Benfica da Praia and defeated that club 0-1, in the quarterfinals, Ribeira Grande defeated Kumunidade and headed to challenge the almighty Sporting Praia and lost 1-0 and was out from appearing in the cup final.
