2015 Cape Verdean Football Championship Final

The 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championship final was the final of the 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championships, which was the 36th EDition of the Cape Verdean Football Championships and 29th with the knockout stage.

In Cape Verde, the finals were televised live on TCV and listened on radio on RCV.

The final was played between clubs from the island of São Vicente, CS Mindelense, champion of the previous national season and regional winner and FC Derby, a regional runner-up. This was the last finals appearance that featured clubs from the same city and island. The winners did not compete into the Cape Verdean Super Cup and the 2016 CAF Champions League in the following season, primarily due to its schedule, a part of it, the regional championship and cup competitions within it.

The 2015 football championship final was Mindelense's was their thirteenth appearance in their 96-year history and also their third consecutive and FC Derby was their fifth appearance in their 86-year history.

Unlike the 2008 season which ended the finals in an away goals rule, the 2015 final was the first in 31 years that the finals ended in both extra time and with a penalty shootout and the first with two legs.

Background

At group stage, Derby participated in Group A while Mindelense participated in Group B, the two advanced to the finals. The finals was the recent that feature two clubs who participated in two different groups.

CS Mindelense had reached the national championship final thirteen times, winning eleven of them. The last time they won a championship title was last season in 2014 where they defeated Académica do Fogo with a total of 2 goals to 1 in two of its matches. Derby had reached the national championship five times winning three of them . The last time they won a championship title was in 2005 where they defeated Sporting Praia with a total of 5 goals to 4 in two of its matches.

Mindelense won their 10th national football championship title and was also their third consecutive, its total number of titles became two more than Sporting Praia. Mindelense qualified into the national championships in the following season.
