2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

The 2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship was the 38th edition of the U.S. Open Pool Championship. Organized by promoter Barry Behrman, the tournament was held from October 13 to 19, 2013, at the Marriott Chesapeake in Chesapeake, Virginia.

American player Shane Van Boening won his third U.S. Open title by defeating the Philippines' Lee Van Corteza 13–10 in the final match. With this win, Van Boening successfully defended his title from the 2012 edition, becoming only the second player in tournament history to win back-to-back U.S. Open titles. He earned the $30,000 top prize out of a total tournament purse of $160,000.

Format

The tournament was conducted as a double-elimination tournament. Matches throughout the preliminary and main rounds were played as a race to 11 racks, while the championship final was played as a race to 13 racks under winner-breaks format.

Tournament summary

Defending champion Shane Van Boening went undefeated through the winners' bracket to secure a place in the finals. Lee Van Corteza reached the finals after battling through the lower bracket, eliminating Scotland's Jayson Shaw and Netherlands' Niels Feijen along the way.

In the final match, Van Boening established an early lead, and despite a strong comeback attempt by Corteza, Van Boening closed out the match 13–10 to take the title.
