Awards and honors
Left fielder Jeff Abbott won the Ed C. Johnson Rookie of the Year Award. Manager Rick Renick was chosen as the league's Manager of the Year as well as Sporting News' Minor League Manager of the Year. Abbott, who was also was also named to the post-season squad, and pitcher Scott Ruffcorn were named to the league's mid-season All-Star team.
Ruffcorn's 13 wins gave him more than any other in the league. Mike Robertson led all first basemen in the league with his .996 fielding percentage.
