1994 Nashville Sounds season

The Nashville Sounds' 1994 season was the franchise's seventeenth year of play. The team finished the regular season with a record of 83 wins and 61 losses. They finished second in the league, as the the American Association was not divided into divisions that year, which secured them a spot in the post-season. In post-season play, the team had four wins and three losses. They won the league semi-finals, but were defeated in the league championship series.

Post-season

The American Association was not divided into divisions during the 1994 season. Instead, the top four teams in the league played for the championship in two best-of-five rounds. The first and fourth place teams and the second and third place teams played each other in the semi-finals, and the winners went on to play for the pennant.

American Association semi-finals

The second place Sounds played the third place New Orleans Zephyrs in the semi-finals. In game one, Nashville's Scott Ruffcorn pitched a 2-hit shutout. The Sounds won the next two games, sweeping the Zephyrs and advancing to the finals.

American Association Championship

Nashville faced off against the Indianapolis Indians to determine the league champion. After opening with a loss at home, Nashville's Scott Ruffcorn pitched a 1–0 shutout to even the series at once game each. However, the Sounds dropped the next two games at Indianapolis, losing to the Indians.

Awards and honors

Scott Ruffcorn was awarded the Allie Reynolds Award for Pitcher of the Year. Designated hitter Drew Denson, second baseman Ray Durham, and pitcher Steve Schrenk were named to the league's mid-season All-Star team. Denson, Durham, and pitcher Scott Ruffcorn were named to the post-season squad.

Denson led the league in RBI (103) and home runs (30). Durham led the league with 261 total bases; he also tied with fellow Sounds player Gary Thurman for the most triples with 12. Durham also paced second basemen in the league with a .973 fielding percentage as did catcher Clemente Alvarez (.998) and pitcher Steve Schrenk (1.000, 45 TC). Ruffcorn had more wins (13) than any other pitcher. He was also involved in a two-way tie for the best winning percentage (.833, 15–3) and the most shutouts (2). James Baldwin threw more strikeouts than any other pitcher with his 156.
