101st Chemical Company
The 101st Chemical Company is a dual-purpose smoke/light decontamination chemical unit based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The unit's mission is to provide nuclear, biological, and chemical personnel and equipment to the U.S. XVIII Airborne Corps, which is located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They are also tasked to provide smoke obscurants. The 101st Chemical Company is one of only two dual-purpose chemical companies stationed on Fort Bragg, the other being the 21st Chemical Company, which is assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division.
The 101st Chemical Company was the first US Army Chemical Company to be deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The company deployed chemical platoons to locations in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar in October 2001. The company would be reunited at Fort Bragg after the return of second platoon of the 101st chemical from Kuwait on May 27, 2003. During January 2003 the company again began deploying to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom the mission would later be renamed Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Fourth platoon of the 101st Chemical Company was the final element to leave Fort Bragg on March 3, 2003. AbOUT 80% of the platoons NCO's were OEF veterans, however, the privates through specialists where all either recent arrivals from basic training or recent transfers from other units.
The 101st Chemical Company was assigned to support 1st Marine Expeditionary Force during the initial assault on Iraq.
As of 2006, the 101st Chemical Company is deployed again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They are stationed at multiple locations through out Kuwait. This deployment marks the third deployment of the company in less than 5 years.
