The BTV operates in Austria in Tyrol, Vorarlberg, and Vienna, as well as in southern Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. The bank is a financial services provider for export-oriented, owner-managed businesses and investors, with a presence in Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Vienna, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and German-speaking Switzerland. Customers in northern Italy are served from Austria.
The BTV group includes various subsidiaries, such as Silvretta Montafon Holding GmbH and Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG. Founded in 1904, the BTV has evolved from a regional bank into a cross-border company.
The BTV was founded as a public limited company by the Imperial and Royal Privileged General Transport Bank of Vienna and emerged from a prominent private bank in Innsbruck.
Thanks to its conservative business practices, the BTV was the only regional public limited bank to survive the economic crisis and even emerged from the 1920s strengthened through the targeted acquisition of local banks. After the Second World War, the BTV stimulated the local economy by providing loans to regional companies.
Since 1986, the BTV has been the only regional bank in western Austria listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. In 1989, the company expanded into Vienna. In 2004 – its 100th year – the first international branch was opened in Staad on Lake Constance in Switzerland. Market entry into Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and South Tyrol followed in 2006.
Since July 1, 2025, the Bank für Tirol und Vorarlberg Aktiengesellschaft has been known as BTV Vier Länder Bank AG.
