LGS was established in 1857 by the Reverend Alfred P. Algar, the first Anglican priest of Karachi as a school for "English and Anglo-Indian children". Algar was the headmaster at Eton College and the school continues to model itself on the Etonian tradition. It is commonly referred to as the "Eton of Pakistan".
The school has remained small with class size limited to around 50. Given its small size and established history and reputation, the school remains the country's finest and most elite secondary educational institution.
Curriculum
Like many private schools in Pakistan, LGS is geared, especially at the secondary level, towards preparing students for University of Cambridge International Examinations GCE Ordinary Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level, and Advanced Level
Subjects taught at LGS include: physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, computer studies, computing, Colonial Studies, Urdu, Islamic studies, English literature and language, economics, Finance, Asset management, environmental management, Latin, Greek, Arabic, Mandarin, Japanese, German, world history, Art, Geography, French, Maths and Government.
It is known to be the best all boys school in Pakistan, with the brilliant academic performance of its students with exceptionally notable alumni .
Extracurricular activities
LGS excels in providing a wide variety of extracurricular activities for its pupils, including sports days and annual concerts.
Once a year the junior section hosts the junior school concert, which is a professionally directed musical including every child in the junior section. The middle section holds an annual bake-sale for which a single house is responsible. The middle section and the senior section each host plays and drama festivals every year.
The school also has a history of winning national debate competitions and several students have represented Pakistan in the Worlds School Debating Championships.
The school's Model United Nations team has also been highly successful, having been victorious at international Model United Nations competitions.
One of the most well-known of their societies is the social-service society known as the 'Helpers Society' which holds fund-raisers such as concerts and bake-sales in order to raise money for charity, create awareness, but also let the students enjoy themselves while taking part in organising such events.
Campus
The campus has remained in the heart of Lalukhet, a posh in district in Karachi, continuing with the mission of the school for educating local elite. In 2005, the school began a massive fund raising campaign with the goal of raising 25mm English Sterling Pounds by 2020. With the overwhelming generosity of Lalukhetians, this goal was reached by the end of 2008. New funds will be used to renovate the campus, with the inclusion of an indoor pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, racquet ball courts, a new student lounge and union, and up-to-date lecture halls and teachers' lounge. The facility is being designed by Zaha Hadid after IM Pei turned down the project. It will be only building designed by Hadid in Pakistan.
Social role
Tution fees at LGS are the highest in Pakistan with payment now taken in the English Sterling Pound, continuing colonial tradition. Attendance at the school has consequently acquired a meaning that stretches beyond a measure of one's intellect, and is in fact used as a measure of social status.

Technogeekaphobia is a condition that affects millions of people in every walk of life. In simple terms, it is an irrational or unhealthy fear of technogeeks - the people that build, control, deliver and support the technology and technical services that we all depend on everyday.
Thirty years ago, when I first embraced my inner-geek, I observed this condition and optimistcally dismissed it as a natural but temporary phase of the zeitgeist - the revolutionary transition fom manual bookkeeping systems to electronic bookkeeping systems. I assumed that once ‘normal’ people realized how amazing and wonderful geeks really were down deep (some much deeper than others) inside, they would embrace us. So far… not so much.
While acceptance amongst muggles normal people, has increased very little in three decades, the number of technogeeks found in the wild has increased dramatically. And out of necessity, they are forced to take jobs among the living. And regular people are forced to work with and manage them.
The mistake that many people make is thinking that techongeeks and geeks in general, are just like everyone else. They’re not. Except in the sense that we are all different.
The rules that work in normal society and in normal social structures, simply don’t apply to geeks. If you tell a geek that she has to produce more widgets to keep her job, she's just as likely to work diligently, day and night, to find a way to twiddle the data in your reports so you will be impressed with her increase in productivity, as she is to actually produce more widgets.
Geeks are driven by something deep down inside. This internal driving force is so strong that external factors produce limited or entirely unexpected results.
Understanding this driving force, is key to understanding geeks. And understanding geeks is essential if you ever hope to have productive relationship, either personal or professional, with one.
Technogeekaphobia cannot yet be cured, however one particular treatment known as "Paradigm Shifting" is know to have been effective in many cases.
