A number of published authors have had mental illness. This list is to acknowledge the wealth of literature that has come from those who struggled with mental illness. Earlier figures were often reluctant to discuss or seek treatment for mental illness due to social stigma about the condition, or due to ignorance of diagnosis or treatments. Some historical personalities are presumed to have suffered from mental illness based on analysis or interpretation of letters, journals, artwork, writings or statements of family and friends.
This list includes only: a) deceased persons; and b) living persons who have been frank about their condition. It does not include speculation about status of living people who have not publicly stated themselves to have a history of mental illness. In addition to the above criteria, persons are only listed here if they also meet the .

Emerald Monkey is a rock/metal band formed in 1994 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Jimmy D. The group released their debut album in 2004 titled Loud which received positive reviews. They are currently finishing the second album. They are set to appear on the upcoming Guns N' Roses tribute album and will play their hit Welcome to the Jungle and Move to the City.
Featuring singer\songwriter Jimmy D. In 1994 Emerald Monkey was a vision. While fronting local acts LOUD, and RED CHINA BLUE, and things never working out in the music scene, the vision took a back seat. Then in 1997 the vision was taken to task by writing and producing the first self-titled demo in 1997. From 1997 thru 2003, Emerald Monkey did one off shows all around CT. Jimmy wrote music for local acts around the CT area as well. Also during this time, Dee Snider Radio added Emerald Monkey to its “Dee Day: Best Of DSR” CD. Jimmy was involved in a skit on the disc, and it featured one of Emerald Monkeys tracks.
Emerald Monkey appeared on Lunar Moth’s “Complete Balanced Breakfast”, a tribute to Saturday morning cartoon themes with a version of “Scooby Doo, Where Are You?”.
Then in 2005, Jimmy took time off from Emerald Monkey to co-write over 17 songs with Daniel Macmaster formerly of the rock band BONHAM, for Daniel's first solo comeback. Daniel died 2008.
Currently in the studio recording a follow up release to “LOUD”. This disc will have many guest musicians… including members of Jimmy’s former band Red China Blue, Ethan Collins formerly of White Trash, and Bill Bruce formerly of Shotgun Messiah. This disc also will feature songs that where co-written with Daniel Macmaster as well. This past November 2005 Emerald Monkey made its first “pro-shot” music video for the single “No One To Blame”. This video was shot in high-def wide screen, and can be seen on the Official EM Myspace page, and the EM You Tube website.

Facing the Wishes is an artist book containing the faces and wishes of the children of Brenner primary school, Tel Aviv, Israel. Elyasaf Kowner met each of the children in person, talked to them and took their direct portraits while making the wish. All 218 portraits appear in black and white and they each cover a full page in the book. The wish of each child is added as told.
Kowner constructs the process of closeness between him and the children as he speaks to them about their wish. Soon after that, he photographs them with his lens close to their faces, their gaze direct, and their eyes speaking from their depths.
The book was published by Pardes Publishing House and is a part of the Karov project aiming at a close dialogue between an artist and the community. The project is curated by Idit Porat and funded by the Department of the Arts, the Municipality of Tel Aviv.
The book was relased on February 18, 2007 and a copy of the book was given to each one of the children appearing in it.
Memorable wishes
* My wish is that the people living in the streets would find themselves homes.
* That there would be no more wars. That everyone would be satisfied from what they have.
* My wish is to fly to space. To reach Africa and see the animals.
* To be strong like the robot Optimus Prime.
* My wish is that my mother would give birth quickly cause she is carrying a daughter in her belly.
* I would like it to be the Holocaust Memorial Day once again cause it's great when the sirens blow and I love to be out traveling.
* My wish is to have an electric scooter and a bicycle and that's it.
* My wish is that mother would give birth easily and not have a stomach ache every minute. That all the family would be healthy and have livelihood and that's it.
* To be like Ronaldinho who was poor in the beginning, continued to the league and made lots of money. Made it far, to Europe.
