Nemu64 is a Nintendo 64 emulator first released in December 11, 1998. Nemu is compatible with Microsoft Windows operating systems. It fully emulates most ROMs in high resolution up to 1600x1200. It includes the Kaillera client for net play and accepts any Windows-supported controller. It is one of the oldest Nintendo 64 Emulators but has been discontinued as of March 2003.
Nemu64 differs from Project64, currently ranked as the best emulator because of its lack of video glitches with its default graphics plugin, in that its main video plugin is Rice Video as opposed to the Jabo's video plugin utilized by Project64. This emulator utilizes 100% of CPU power and when combined with the Rice Video plugin results in a near perfect emulation rivaling that of a real Nintendo 64. Because of this, Nemu64 is noticeably slower than Project64 on older hardware, and requires a more powerful CPU to run smoothly. Nemu64 also has better tools for tool-assisted speedrunning, such as frame by frame emulation, the assigning of controller macros, and the ability to capture button strokes into files for share over the internet. However, with its default plugins, it does not support as many games as Project64, and it also has a few graphical glitches that occur during gameplay. Nemu64 uses the Kaillera client for use of net play to play Nintendo 64 games, such as Super Smash Bros, online with other players.
The author of Nemu64, Lemmy, has released a plugin for this emulator called (which may work on other emulators) which can export a 3D model from a running game into the VRML format.
