Pamela Pendley Biggers (born October 12, 1952) is an American woman from Hueytown, Alabama. She went missing on Sunday, January 27 or Monday, January 28, 2008 from her hotel room while on a business trip in Panama City, Florida.
Events leading up to disappearance
Biggers arrived in Panama City, Florida on the late afternoon/early evening of Sunday, January 27, 2008 on a business trip. She had driven to her destination by family car with a colleague from work "to participate in a Winn-Dixie set in Panama City."
At approximately 5:30 PM she spoke with her husband, Don Biggers, via telephone after having checked in at the local La Quinta Inn. During the conversation, she informed him that she would be going to dinner with the co-worker she traveled with, who was staying in a room across the hall.
Biggers and her co-worker had dinner out and, either before or after the meal, visited the local Wal-Mart to purchase food and other supplies for the next day's events. The two then returned to their respective hotel rooms at approximately 7:00 PM.
Circumstances of disappearance
On the morning of January 28, 2008, Biggers was expected to meet with her coworkers in the lobby of the La Quinta Inn at approximately 6:00 AM. When she failed to show up, her coworkers attempted to contact Biggers on their own. Unable to get a response, hotel managament opened the door to Biggers' room.
According to reports, management found the hotel room vacant and undisturbed, with no signs of a struggle. The bed had not been slept in and/or turned down, but it appeared as though Biggers had been reading in bed due to fact that the pillow(s) were propped up against the headboard and her book and glasses were placed on the bed-side table. All of Bigger's personal belongings, including her suitcase(s), clothes, purse, cell phone, money, and keys were left in the room. Her hotel room key was also left behind and the family vehicle remained parked in the parking lot..
According to her husband, who traveled to Panama City from Hueytown after being notified that his wife was missing, it appeared as if she "wandered off on her own."
Possible mental health issues
Biggers may have been suffering from mental health issues at the time of her disappearance, including "voices in her head and paranoia," according to her husband. Although these issues had been present in the past, they may have become more severe in the time period leading up to her disappearance due to the fact that Biggers had just learned that her son Jacob would be deployed to Afghanistan.
Biggers had been on medication for her condition in the past, but had made the decision to stop taking it at some point before the business trip. Possibly as a result, Biggers' husband Don had suggested that she not take the trip to Panama City.
Footage captured on a Wal-Mart surveillance camera during Biggers' and co-worker's shopping trip the night of her disappearance, January 27, 2008, showed Pamela walking in an "erractic" manner. Upon reviewing the video, Biggers' husband commented that "she was acting very strange" and "her movements were not normal and she was walking in a zigzag pattern. She would often stop, turn, and look up suddenly."
