Dipanjan Biswas is a poet of India residing in the state of West Bengal. Popularly nicknamed Gurudeb Biswas Da by his avid readers, his new age lyrics have become a rage among the seething populace of his native place.
Early life and education
Born in the sleepy town of Berhampore, Dipanjan attended a school in Bakreshwar as a coquette and a diligent student. In an interview given to BEtan, the monthly journal of BESU, he has admitted that the sight of seeing Bakreshwar Thermal Power Station has left a lasting impact on him, and has paved the way for his future association with National Thermal Power Corporation. Often bagging many awards in the district level, he showed early promise as a great poet even in his early days. After completing school, Dipanjan joined the elite Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, where his skills fully blossomed into his now typical style. He is still to attain his final degree.
Early works
His first poem was written in his native language of Bengali at the age of 9, "Baje Chap". His work immediately caught attention of his compatriots as a promise of early talent. He became very popular in the local "Abritti" circuit, a localised native form of elocution and poetry. His next work, which is considered groundbreaking by Bengali literary critics was "Aar Chap Nite Parchhina Naa", which serialized the tales of a young fellow, and his coming to terms with the educational stress of the system. This period also gave rise to important period tales like "Room e Ondhokar" and "Ei Chotto Meye." Biswas is now taking too much 'chaap' for his education. Thus his recent piece of poetry "I Love Malini" is yet to be published. It is supposed to be a local best-seller. His parents give him support to show his hidden talent in the form of his 'kobita.'
Later works
Dipanjan has himself admitted that after being admitted to BESU, his poetic skills increased manifold, as he was both able to view the two contrasting states of daily pressures as an engineering grad as well the serene peaceful lush greenery of Botanic Garden, a stone's throw from his hostel. A mighty inspiration he also got from the renowned Bengali poet Jatindra Mohan Bagchi, the great forefather of his classmate and beloved friend Abhra Bagchi. This was the period when he wrote his most popular poem yet, "Dhur Chhai", which immediately became the rage among college students, exemplifying the angst of the students against the system. He also turned a Naturalist, writing "Oi Bot Gaach", "Ogo Boudi Sundori" (which he dedicated to Shantonu Sahoo) and "Jheel e Boshe Pakhi Dekhlam". These works further strengthened his claim as one of the luminaries in the Bengali literary circuit.
With rise in popularity, he was nicknamed "Jaah" and "Chaap". The most famous name however is Gurudeb Biswas Da.
=="Ei Chotto Meye"==
Fame would not come to Biswas if he did not write his revolutionary poem "Ei Chotto Meye." This type of poetic skill in so early of his life defies explanation.
Here are a few lines from the above mentioned "Ei Chotto Meye."
Tomar norom hater choya ar bhalobashay
Amar kaandher obishwas-er aboron shoriye nao,
Komolotar sathe ei reshmi poshak unmukto kore
Amar shorirer prayoshitto gulo jhere falo,
Esho amar shokha amar hridoy-er bedona kere nao,
Amar haat, kan ar kaandh theke sob bhoy dur koro.
Chumbon koro amar nogno skondhe kintu shekhane themo na,
Amar priyo premi aro dokkhine safor koro ar sei duniyar kaanta gulo khule dao
Jatayat koro amar nogno poschat o payu deshe,

Hey Adam, tomar dirgho lingo diye ei Eve-er chidro biddho koro.
