Vertical City of the Americas, also called Verticus, was a proposed building to be constructed in Miami, Florida. Many hoped this would make Miami a "world city" like New York City. It was proposed to be built on Miami's Bicentennial Park. Meant to be the tallest building in the world, Verticus was to have risen 175 floors into the sky and would have included 700 hotel rooms, 1000 condominiums and 2.5 million square feet of office space. Other features included a Florida Marlins stadium and two museums. Also included were six landscaped decks--one atop the museum and parking garage, and five decks going up the tower. Renderings of the skyscraper indicated massive digital advertisement billboards which would have been mounted on the building's parking garage and baseball stadium.
The project was proposed to be almost entirely financed from private funding by a group of Miami executives, including Wayne Huizenga (owner of Miami Dolphins and Blockbuster Video), Mickey Arison (owner of the Miami Heat and Carnival Cruise Lines) and Jeffrey Loria (owner of the Florida Marlins).
