El Mar (The Sea), a story of a child whose dying mother is the only thing between him and the realization of his wish to see the sea for the first time, won him acclaim and became part of the selection of a young literature list in Europe before it was translated and included in selections in Russian, Czech, Greek, Portuguese and Finnish. This work was followed by a small poetry book, Las Flores Áureas (The Golden Blossoms) that was published in an edition sponsored by the Italian government and UNESCO.
