JITOA is an international non-profit/non-governmental organization with over 70 members spread throughout the Hashemite Kingdom and international partners in Lebanon, the United States and Europe. JITOA’s mission is to empower local stakeholders in order to facilitate sustainable development, build global communication, educate tourists about the Middle East, better business practices and support positive social transformation through tourism.
History
In 2003, recognizing that tourism to the Middle East was in decline due to regional instability and global misconceptions, several inbound tour operators united in order to create JITOA. Awni Kawar, Samer Mu’asher, Omran Daqqa, Munir Nassar, Seif Sa’udi, Ghada Najjar and Muhanad Malhas hoped the entity would strengthen the industry by giving voice to a formerly disjointed community and building capacity in a growing sector. They believed that through tourism the economy could be strengthened, socially excluded locals could integrate into the community and the world could be educated about the region. At this time too the government created the National Tourism Strategy 2004-2010, pledging to double tourism by 2010. The founding members used this goal as a central tenet of their vision.
JITOA’s office is located in Amman, Jordan.
Mission
To raise the standard of practice in inbound tourism to Jordan.
According to JITOA, raising the standard means:
1.Professional conduct of JITOA members with all stakeholders
2.Being a major player in the decision making process in tourism
3.Being the Inbound tour operating reference in Jordan
The mission of an organization is the reason for its existence. It is why the organization was established in the first place. JITOA firmly believes, as stated in its Core Values that the ever shining guiding star of all its activities is its Mission. In “raising the standard” JITOA believes it will be able to realize its core values and through the workings of its Board, staff and members collectively will be able to reflect a standard of excellence that will result in fulfilling its mission.
Vision
To achieve a global recognition of JITOA mark of Excellence.
JITOA’s commitment to its Values and Mission. JITOA holds firm that only through the development of a standard of excellence against which its members will be certified and thus hold the “Mark of Excellence”, will it be able to raise the standard and contribute more effectively to the Jordanian GDP. This Vision is a bold statement that will excite JITOA, as an organization, and will reflect what it sees to be the future. This standard of Excellence should have a sphere of effect that transcends JITOA. All stakeholders who deal with JITOA members will also have to adhere to this standard of Excellence. Accordingly, a culture of excellence in Inbound Tourism will be developed through the coming years and will be reflected in the Cluster that will identify the Inbound Tourism Sector in Jordan
Core Values
According to the National Tourism Strategy 2004 - 2010, the tourism sector accounted for 534 Million JD of the Jordanian GDP in the early 21st Century. For this number to increase many folds, JITOA firmly holds sacred that the industry standard has to be raised to a level that will result in global acceptance of Jordan as a destination of choice. JITOA realizes that such a strong core value is never quantifiable or reachable as all core values are. However, it stems from inside JITOA and reflects what it believes to be the central non changing tenet that JITOA will always adhere to.
JITOA believes that such a core value will always be the non variable basis for its work and should result, if adhered to, in increasing many folds the contribution of the inbound tourism industry to the Jordanian GDP and thus the quality of life of the Jordanian society
Program Approach
JITOA recognizes that tourism can have deleterious effects on the environment and socio-economic factors. However, tourism is widely seen as a sector especially well suited to poverty reduction, based on a number of factors, including: the labor-intensive nature of the industry; its dependence on natural and cultural assets (which are assets that poor people often have access to); the diversity of the industry, which facilitates wide participation of women; and the necessary proximity of the customer to the producer, which creates opportunities for formal and informal linkages (e.g. souvenir selling). (Ashley et al., 2000, WTO 2002) JITOA partners with various local and international organizations in order to strengthen the aforementioned positive aspect of tourism and to reduce detrimental aspects such as environmental damage.
Partners
Through partnerships and working relationships with organizations such as the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, Al Shajarah NGO, Fair Trade Tourism Jordan, the Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development and the Jordan Hashemite University, JITOA supports eco-tourism and responsible tourism efforts in the region. JITOA, in conjunction with these organizations, has launched educational courses and public campaigns in order to educate the public about these efforts and the dangers of ignoring problems created by tourism.
JITOA has joined with local associations such as the Jordan Restaurant Association, the Jordan Hotel Association, the Jordan Tour Guides Association and the Jordan Tourism Board in order to create codes of conduct within the industry and unite a broad and often fragmented sector. This also serves to strengthen JITOA’s advocacy efforts.
JITOA has partnered with educational institutions such as the Middle Eastern University and George Washington University to deliver courses and seminars that build the capacity within the industry.
Stakeholders
JITOA’s donors include: USAID, the European Union
MICE Jordan
A range of new facilities combined with a dynamic marketing strategy by the Jordan Tourism Board have triggered a steady increase in the incentive, conference and exhibitions sector of the tourism industry in Jordan, and the trend is expected to increase in coming years.
From the haunting, primeval starkness of Wadi Rum, to the teeming center of urban Amman; from the majestic ruins of bygone civilizations to the timeless splendor of the Dead Sea, Jordan is unveiled as a unique destination offering breathtaking and mysterious sights, high standard accommodations, exquisite cuisine and countless activities that can provide visitors with inspiration, motivation, and rejuvenation. Marveling at herds of gazelles and oryx and migrating birds, camping amidst the grandeur of Wadi Rum or Dana Reserve, trekking the ancient caravan trails from the highlands of Moab and Edom, hiking the wooded hills of biblical Gilead, or experiencing the unique, cleaning mud baths of the Dead Sea are just but a few examples.
JITOA Focus
A monthly e-newsletter published by JITOA and distributed to more than 3.000 contacts in Jordan and abroad. It is a highly informative and smart tool for all the members to get all the updated news and hot stories related to the industry.
JITOA members get free ads and can have their own contribution in this e-newsletter. It forms as a powerful tool for keeping the channels open with non-members, government and other key partners from the industry.

Inciclopedia is a parody of the encyclopedia, and the Spanish language version of Uncyclopedia, it was founded on February 24, 2006 to serve as a continuation of Frikipedia, a parody site closed by SGAE. Inciclopedia was formed initially using recovered Frikipedia article texts, which were retrieved from the Google and search engine caches and re-posted to the Spanish section of Uncyclopedia.
The Inciclopedia is hosted by Wikia using Mediawiki software. As of 2008, it contains more than 4000 articles. Of the fifty independent Uncyclopedias in various languages, Inciclopedia is the eighth-largest by number of articles, after the versions in English, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, French and Finnish. In number of active users and edits made, Inciclopedia is the third-busiest Uncyclopedia-related Wikia after English and Italian.
Like in Uncyclopedia, Inciclopedia users insist that is a humorous parody of Inciclopedia and that is a NGO intent on world domination.
Recurring themes
Like in the Uncyclopedia, the concepts expressed in Inciclopedia are ingenious or silly things, often with little or no similarity to reality. Some often-recurring topics and themes are:
* "Those who cannot be named". Pseudonym of SGAE, to which they attribute all type of abuses, such as attempts to appropriate for itself the rights of works of dead or imaginary authors. This subject has expanded in Inciclopedia, mainly as a result of the closure of Frikipedia after legal problems that it had with SGAE.
* Chuck Norris. An inherited tradition from Frikipedia. One long series of crazy facts is attributed to him, related generally to the "roundhouse kick". For example, with this kick he caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Chuck requested a Big Mac in a Burger King and they became it.
* Flying Spaghetti Monster. Also inherited from Frikipedia, He is "the official" divinity of Inciclopedia. All articles that attack His name and the religion of Pastafarianism represent heresy (including the article on the Catholic Church). In Inciclopedia, He also bears the name of Monesvol (Monstruo de Espagueti Volador), the one that made his fortune on the Internet.
* Miguel de Cervantes. Usually one attributes invented citations to him. These appear throughout various articles, much like Uncyclopedia's citation of Oscar Wilde. A large percentage of articles have at least one quotation attributed to Miguel de Cervantes.
* "The Thief". A name which is used to refer to , on the presumption that all content, ideas and projects are original to Inciclopedia and had been copied there or plagiarized in some manner.
* Ulterior Tuvalu is a non-existent country located hypothetically in Oceania. It serves as a satire of small nations with few inhabitants.
* Tio1.jpg, the uncle. A person of strange appearance that appears on numerous pages. Originally his likeness was used in a template to indicate articles that lacked photos, but soon grew in popularity and transformed himself into an independent recurring joke that appears in multiple articles that indeed have other photos. InciNoticias, the news section, announced his death on October 29 2007, after falling victim to an attack with rolled newspapers at the hands of an anti-cliché organization in the fictitious nation of Ulterior Tuvalu.
* George W. Bush: Aside from disparate phrases, Bush appears commonly in invented quotations where he confuses the subject at issue with another one, saying for example that France has too many forests and that their capital is Toronto.
Since some subjects, like Tio and Chuck Norris, were being used compulsively, Inciclopedia makes editorial decisions based on originality. The appearance of clichés of this type in an article are taken into account when considering pages for deletion, as they are sometimes abused to create article text without originality nor humour.
Tio, the uncle of Inciclopedia
Tio became a popular image meme after he appeared in many Inciclopedian articles. Created from an image of Jimbo Wales, he is also often mentioned in the Portuguese-language Desciclopédia as being "the uncle of the Spanish-language Inciclopedia".
One running Brazilian joke is to ask that users "sign wiki posts with four uncles—"; this play on words is based on « Tios » being a word both for tildes (~) and for "uncles".
Projects
Like , Inciclopedia includes various other projects like Incinoticias, Incitables and Incilibros. These parody Wikinews (Wikinoticias), Wikiquote (Wikicitas) and Wikibooks (Wikilibros) respectively. Incinoticias deals humorously with news and current events. In this project horoscopes are included, and purport to be written by an expert futurologist. Simultaneously, important breaking news and headlines normally are given coverage. Incinoticias articles do not have to be based on real facts. These are categorised according to the described subjects and ordered according to the month of their creation.
Incitables is a compilation of quotations, out-of-context or invented. They claim to be from prominent individuals like Albert Einstein or Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, or from fictitious personalities like Tio, Anonymous or Office Assistant. In these pages a brief description of the person is offered to provide context and some images are included to add humour. On the project's main page is a random phrase, links to the created pages and various help links.
Incilibros was established February 25, 2007, but some of the texts pre-date its creation. Incilibros is governed by the same rules as all other articles and is divided into categories or subjects. These include instruction manuals, scientific books on scientific, encyclopaedic knowledge or absurdities. Manuals on absurd topics ("How to kill with a roll of toilet paper"), the obvious ("How to breathe"), tourism guides ("Chile Knows") and others are very common.
On April 26 of the same year, Incionario was created as a parody of Wiktionary (Wikcionario). It contains short definitions that, due to their small size, would be erased immediately if they were submitted as encyclopaedia articles.
Policies
Contributors to Inciclopedia (who are called Inciclopedistas) follow rules which are stricter than the ones in Frikipedia. Among these:
* The content cannot violate copyrights. The articles must be free: taken from some free source or one that allows republication.
* The articles must be of suitable length. The administrators of the Inciclopedia eliminate any article that has less than 5 lines of text.
* Vandalism is not allowed. When this happens, the user responsible for this attack is banned by administrators.
* The contributions must be humorous. For the cases of local humour to a specific country, they have individual workgroups. This prevents creation of articles with inside jokes which only very few understand. Example: It is not allowed to make an article referring to a professor of an institute in some city of Spain, because that article will be only understood by very few.
Applying these rules and a little common sense, the administrators eliminate:
* Articles of very few lines (stubs).
* Articles that promote hatred.
* Articles without humour.
* Pages with no correspondence to reality or which merely repeat one idea in various different articles.
* Serious and/or very realistic articles.
* Copied articles from .
* Articles brought from Frikipedia, if written after its closure and re-creation.
* Incomplete articles that fulfil certain requirements.
* Articles that have been voted for deletion (VPB is a discussion forum where Inciclopedia users discuss proposed article deletions).
