Maxwelltown Thistle A.F.C. are a Scottish football club currently playing in the Dumfries and District Amateur League. They re-joined the league in time for the 2007-08 season after a 43 year break from amateur football. The club has a long history of involvement in youth football and can trace its roots back to the 1930s.
History
Originally formed as a Juvenile team (U18) they played in the local Dumfries Juvenile league. The club re-formed in 1946 and played as Maxwelltown Juveniles until the 1954-55 at which point the club joined the newly formed Dumfries and District Amateur League with a name change to Maxwelltown Thistle coming at the same time. After only 3 seasons the club dropped out of the Amateur ranks and joined the newly formed Youth League.
From 1958 to 1961 the club played in the local youth league until a return to the Amateur ranks for one season in 1961-62. Returning to the youth ranks for the 1962-63 season the club continued to field a team in one or more of the age groups in youth football up until midway through the 2006-07 season at which point the team withdrew from youth football due to a lack of committee and the failing health of the mainstay of the club Billy Cross.
The Amateur team had a reasonably successful time during their first season finishing as runners-up in the league, taking their title challenge to the last game of the season and winning two cups from four cup final appearances. Their second season was even better in terms of results but was marred by an 18 point deduction for an administrative error relating to a Youth player. They featured in four finals again but won only one, mainly due to injuries and availability at the end of a busy season. The previous season saw a downturn in fortunes, mainly due to a catalogue of injuries to key players, the worst coming in April when one of the team suffererd a career ending double fracture of the tibula and fibula. The team did reach two semi-finals but failed to progress.
The club has re-grouped for the 2010/11 season and hope for a turnaround in their fortunes, many of the club's rivals have also strengthened teams and the season is expected to be heavily contested.

Freegold derives its name from a monetary environment where gold is set free, and has no function as money. Gold is demonetized, and has one function only: a store of value. The function of money changes only slightly: it is a medium of exchange and unit of account, but stripped of the store of value function. In this environment, currency and freegold will coexist to supplement each other, without interacting with each other.
History
Freegold was first seen at the ancient times of the Roman Forum and its Greek equivalent. People gathered at the market place for trading, and used scrip money to facilitate transactions. Their scrip money was not intended to be a store of value, and a surplus of scrip money was converted to something more resembling a store of value like gold or silver. Later, and probably due to increased quality and general availability of Coining, base metals and precious metals were used as money, which brought us the gold standard and ended the natural freegold area. A gold standard had severe restrictions on governments to apply monetary policy, especially in deflationary times as occurred in the 1930's. Ever since, the importance of the gold standard has been reduced, first by removing convertibility for US citizens in 1933, later by removing the international dollar to gold convertibility for Nations in 1971, which ended the Bretton Woods system. That left the US dollar as a thought of gold, in the books of the US Treasury still marked at $42 2/9 dollar a Troy ounce<ref name="Treasury_valuation" />, without any convertibility whatsoever. Without this official convertibility though, gold was still monetized, and a rapid increase in the price of gold would signal investors a decline of the value of the US dollar. This forced governments to actively manage the price of gold<ref name="GATA" />, documented by the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee<ref name="GATA_freegold" />. With massive printing of currencies started after the Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in 2008, investors flock to commodities and precious metals, making gold price manipulation difficult to governments and which in effect counteracts monetary policy.
Implications of freegold
Under a freegold system, people are encouraged to save their surplus purchasing power in gold, for future spending. There are some severe implications coming out of this:
* Savings accounts at banks will be found less interesting (as this is an investment, not savings), leaving the banks with a declining pool of capital. Due to leverage function of fractional-reserve banking, it may greatly impact the financial industry.
* People who save their surplus purchasing power in currency and currency derivatives, may see their purchasing power greatly diminished when the monetary system is shifting to freegold, while keeping their savings in currency.
* Monetary policy will no longer impact the pool of savings (the savers).
* Interest rates will truly reflect the anticipated future purchasing power of currency.
* Countries will no longer try to devalue their currency for cheap exports. Quite the contrary: a strong currency will cause an inflow of gold, a weak currency will cause an outlow of gold.
* Freegold will solve the Triffin dilemma<ref name="Dilemma" />, as nations may opt for payment in what they perceive most valuable: currency or gold.
* Freegold may enable meritocracy; those who have (are) the labour force, natural resources or capital (gold) are in power; opposite to today where those who control the money are in power. Therefor;
* Freegold is allowing Third World countries to join the global economy.
* Freegold will put a brake on the debt based money expansion (due to its compound interest), as money is used for short term transactions only. This is more compatible in a world existing of finite resources and sustainable energy.
* Freegold will better support Islamic banking, and Islamic countries might even opt for a gold standard, though leaving them without monetary policy capabilities.
The significance of freegold can only be theorized until its arrival, though it will fundamentally change our perception of money for centuries to come.
Promotion and publications
Late 1997, freegold was first promoted on the internet by someone with the name of Another<ref name="Another" /> who was believed to be a European Banker. In his publications, he described the relation between the flow of oil and gold, and a cheap dollar. When Another stopped publishing, someone else continued writer anonymous under the name FOA (Friend of Another<ref name="FOA" />) who published The Gold Trail. Writings have stopped after 2002, but as of 2008, an anonymous blogger by the name FOFOA (Friend of a Friend of Another<ref name="FOFOA" />) started promoting freegold again. In 2010, a public effort was completed to collect all the Another and FOA writings, including their comments on other users posts and questions, into one bundle<ref name="Bundle" />.
Moving to freegold
A move to freegold would not be as abrupt you may think. Starting with issuance of the Euro, the European Central Bank is marking its gold reserves to market value. The more Fiat currencies fall in value against gold, the more obvious it becomes that gold will remain the only store of value - just by reading the balance sheet of the ECB<ref name="Statement" />. After the ECB started marking its gold reserves to market, the central banks of upcoming BRIC economies started doing the same. Freegold is expected to emerge, once the (existing or emerging-) reserve currency starts accounting its gold reserves to actual market price.
On 9 May 2002, ECB President Wim Duisenberg said in his Acceptance speech of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen for 2002<ref name="Duisenberg" />: The euro, probably more than any other currency, represents the mutual confidence at the heart of our community. It is the first currency that has not only severed its link to gold, but also its link to the nation-state. As it may have seem cryptic at the time, Wim Duisenberg describes the Euro as a transactional currency, coexisting with freegold.
Controversy and lacking sources
The concept freegold is sometimes found hard to understand, especially to Westerners, who mostly have grown up in a world without a practiced gold standard, and an on average mild inflation. Asian people however do have better understanding, due to a more cultural suspicion against government and (their management of) fiat currency.
It is interesting to note that the term or concept freegold is not broadly found on the internet or in publications. Even though the ECB and the central banks of the BRIC countries do support freegold. In order to allow transparent coexistence of freegold, European countries were encouraged to drop VAT on gold, when the predecessor of the Euro , the ECU was introduced. The lack of sources may be explained as a surreptitious act of the creators of the new competing currency-block to the dollar, who didn't want to outright threaten the hegemony of the dollar. Implications have been found severe, as described by John Perkins in his book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man<ref name="Perkins" />.
A similar concept but different name for freegold has been suggested by Jim Sinclair, who used the name Revitalized and Modernized Federal Reserve Gold Certificate Ratio<ref name="Sinclair" />

This is a list of fictional human enhancements from the Japanese science fiction franchise Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
Coordinators
Coordinators are genetically enhanced human beings who possess a number of enhanced traits, including faster learning and stronger and faster bodies that are virtually immune to diseases. They are physically and mentally superior to baseline normal humans. Coordinators are feared and hated by normal humans. Hatred and envy of Coordinators stem from their superior abilities. Furthermore, there is a distinction between Coordinators and Newtypes, such as in After War Gundam X. Unlike Newtypes, Coordinators were artificially created, and in some episodes of Gundam Seed, it was revealed that "genetic saturation" with succeeding generations were occurring. Newtypes represented the next stage in natural human evolution, while Coordinators seemed to hit an evolutionary standstill that could only be surpassed with more forced genetic manipulation (which just compounds the initial problem).
First Coordinator
In Cosmic Era 15, the highly respected man named George Glenn announced the shocking news that he was the first Coordinator, as he was born following a genetic manipulation procedure. Glenn was human "engineered" to be better. He disclosed the entire process to create a Coordinator to the public.
The genetic modifications that create a Coordinator had to be performed in the earliest stages of embryonic development. The Coordinator embryo was then reinserted back into its mother for gestation. These genetic enhancements are then passed on to the Coordinator's children without the need for more enhancements.
Those who were born without any genetic enhancements, be they inherited from the parents or introduced during prenatal development, became known as Naturals. When Natural parents have their children turned into Coordinators, the children are described as first-generation Coordinators, whose own children will then be second-generation Coordinators, and so forth.
Coordinators and Naturals
For many years, after George Glenn's revelation, Coordinators remained illegal. When the ban was repealed in the CE 30s, the "Coordinator boom" started and lasted until the CE 50s. Following the rapid and widespread diffusion of Coordinators, major social unrest followed, throwing the world into chaos. Many Naturals started to oppose the Coordinators out of jealousy for their abilities, stating that they were created unnaturally. Anti-Coordinator pressure groups, most notably Blue Cosmos, labeled Coordinators as "space monsters" and declared that they had to be wiped out "for the preservation of a blue and pure world."
As the major political blocs began building the space colonies, known as PLANTs, these gradually became a new home for Coordinators. The Naturals intended to make the Earth their exclusive domain, although it was not uncommon to find Coordinators and Naturals living peacefully together in nations such as the Orb Union.
By the mid-50s, the situation had deteriorated to the point that Blue Cosmos operatives were in positions of power across the Atlantic Federation, and Coordinators had largely retreated to either neutral nations like the Orb Union or into space in PLANT, where they were more than welcome.
A derogative term among Naturals for Coordinators is "Patchworker," a reference to their "patchwork" DNA.
Issues
As of CE 71, Coordinators are becoming increasingly sterile because they do not have the genetic input which Naturals possess. Additionally, this sterile situation only occurs in 3rd-generation Coordinators. Though PLANT scientists are busy working on a solution, there is no known cure as of the present date.
Another potential flaw of Coordinators is that there is a discrepancy between how a Coordinator fetus is intended to develop and how the child turns out in reality. In many cases, unwanted genetic traits would appear in the baby, arguably due to the inability of the mother's womb to pose as an adequate environment to support the genetic modifications or simply because of complexity of genetic engineering.
=== "Ultimate" Coordinator ===
In the early CE 50's, renowned scientist Professor Ulen Hibiki proposed the usage of an artificial womb to circumvent the natural womb's shortcomings in order to create an infant which has all the intended genetic modifications without any deviations. This gives whoever is the Ultimate Coordinator genetic superiority over the average Coordinators. Many "prototypes" failed, including Canard Pars, the only known one to have survived, before the last and successful "Ultimate Coordinator", Hibiki's son Kira Yamato, was born on May 18, CE 55. Kira grew up completely unaware of his origins until later during the Bloody Valentine War.
True purpose
According to the "GG Unit", an artificial intelligence said to be derived from the memory engrams of George Glenn's brain, Coordinators have strayed from their intended purpose: to "coordinate" the next step of humanity's evolution, as the name indicates. The phrase emerged from the historic speech that Glenn made to reveal his genetic nature in which he stated his view that "I am the regulator... the coordinator". Glenn never intended for Coordinators to view themselves as a superior race, but in his eyes, anyone who works for the betterment of mankind is a true Coordinator, regardless of whether his genes have been enhanced or not. Unfortunately, this enlightened view is not shared by many on either side of the Earth/PLANT conflict, with many believing that Coordinators are the next step for humanity, a crime against nature or even simply a way for vain parents to create their dream child. Glenn does not give any details of how this next stage of human evolution differs from current humans.
Extended human (Biological CPU)
The Extended human was a secret Atlantic Federation development project that aimed to produce pilots for its mobile suits that could fight with the same efficiency as Coordinators. Through the use of drugs and other means, Blue Cosmos was able to create living weapons. Those who could not keep up with progress or were not competitive enough were discarded. They are considered equipment instead of soldiers by the Earth Alliance Forces. When not in battle, an Extended seems like a normal person, but when engaged in combat, he/she would become psychotic. In its earlier stages, the project was codenamed "Biological CPU program".
* First Stage Extended humans had some biotechnological modification and were mentally conditioned to eliminate their sense of fear and increase aggression in combat; the subjects were mostly regular pilots who were given regular doses of the performance-enhancing drug Gamma Glipheptin. This drug had a negative effect on the pilots' mental stability and caused them to behave in undesirable ways during battle; it also had a very brief duration, and as the effect wore off it left the pilots incapacitated with severe withdrawal symptoms as their nervous systems began to collapse without regular doses. Their loyalty to the Earth Alliance was guaranteed by their addiction to Gamma Glipheptin. The first-stage test subjects were Shani Andras, Clotho Buer, and Orga Sabnak; all three were killed in battle during the closing stages of the Bloody Valentine War.
* Second Stage Extended humans were physically and psychologically altered with heavy mental conditioning, performance-enhancing drugs, and extremely harsh combat training. They were more stable than first-stage Extendeds but required regular reconditioning, especially when their block words were used to force actions from them. They also required regular brain "maintenance" to keep them in a high-performance state and to erase any "undesirable" memories they might possess. Sting Oakley, Stella Loussier, and Auel Neider were second-stage Extended humans; all three died in combat throughout the course of the Second Bloody Valentine War. Auel perished at the hands of Shinn Asuka's ZGMF-X56S Impulse in a naval battle near Crete. Stella died after her GFAS-X1 Destroy was attacked by Kira Yamato's ZGMF-X10A Freedom in battle over Berlin. Sting was also piloting a Destroy when he was killed by Shinn's ZGMF-X42S Destiny in the battle for Heaven's Base. It should be noted that Phantom Pain pilot Sven Cal Bayan stated that Extendeds do not live very long.
The second-stage Extendeds appear to be much more mentally stable than the first-stage Extendeds and have been intended to be more "useful"; Sting, Auel, and Stella demonstrated that they were not only fair pilots, but also capable of blending into a crowd and acting (at least somewhat) like normal teenagers, capable of taking orders from superiors better, capable of hand-to-hand combat on an excellent level, and easier to control than first-stage Extendeds. Extended humans could be considered analogous to the Universal Century concept of "Artificial" or "Cyber-Newtypes", who were normal pilots enhanced to have Newtype abilities.
The Extended human program serves to portray Blue Cosmos in a negative light as shameless hypocrites. The organization's claim is that the genetic alteration used in the process of creating Coordinator children is inhuman, yet in truth, these fanatical Naturals do not even consider the fact that their means to create an anti-Coordinator fighting force is far more inhumane than the process and race they deem to be evil. This is proven by the fact that Blue Cosmos kidnapped children, forced them to undergo harsh training, brainwashing and manipulation of their bodies (such as the said brain-conditioning, which involved removal of the brain itself). Those who could not keep up were killed and many of these children died during the training and punishments, much to the horror of the crew of the Minerva who discovered the Lodonia laboratory where the program was carried out.
SEED factor
SEED factor (Superior Evolutionary Element Destined-factor) is a controversial and as yet unproven theory about the continuation of human evolution. Both Coordinators and Naturals can possess "the SEED," and those who do are thought by some to be the next stage of human development. This bears some similarity to the Newtype theory of the Universal Century, but the abilities of those with SEED factor appear to be unrelated to Newtype potential. While acceptance of SEED theory is limited, Orb engineer Erica Simmons and prominent religious leader and peace activist Reverend Malchio are known adherents of the theory.
SEED mode represents the ability for an individual with the SEED factor to enter into a state of enhanced awareness and peak physical ability. While in this state, the person (usually a mobile suit pilot, but not necessarily) demonstrates heightened reflexes and extremely quick information processing. This ability is usually triggered by extreme situations or from recalling significant traumas, often arising out of a need to protect someone else in a critical situation.
According to an interview with the producer on the official guide book, the producer claims that the SEED mode is like people having superhuman strength during an outbreak of fire and can carry extremely heavy weight out of the fire scene but can never even dream of carrying in normal daily life.
It is demonstrated visually by cutting to the image of a jewel-like seed, its color matching the color of the experiencer's eyes, dropping from the above and exploding in a shower of light just above the eyes. The physical characteristics are the shrinking of the pupil and growth of the iris. When in SEED mode, a person exceeds his or her normal physical and mental limits. Andrew Waltfeld once likened SEED mode to the berserkers of Norse legend, but this is not entirely accurate. Waltfeld mistakenly categorizes the visual effect of SEED as a berserker warrior. Waltfeld, like some viewers of the SEED shows equate an increase in the number of kills with a loss of control. However, it is more likely that the enhanced senses provided by the SEED factor allow the pilot to more easily best their opponents. For example, in Kira Yamato's battles against Waltfeld, his SEED factor resulted in his near-instantaneous modifications of his suit's OS and highly inventive tactics as display in Phase 18 during his battle against a squad of BuCUEs. Shinn Asuka also displays a heightened tactical ability when using his SEED as seen during his battle with Kira's Freedom.
There are two observed ways that SEED mode can be activated. When a character suddenly resolves to protect his allies or to strike down his enemies during battle, however, it also happens when a character has entered battle with a particular resolve, he may trigger SEED mode at will. A character's state of mind when he enters SEED mode appears amplified. Entering it through the first way, in response to the stress of battle, is most commonly (but not always) caused by anger or rage. The heightened awareness and ability allows the person to fight more efficiently, often resulting in a much higher kill count. Those who enter it the second way (or the first way with a calm state of mind) display an increased amount of mental control.
Uses
Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Cagalli Yula Athha originally entered SEED mode via the first method, though Kira and Athrun attained the ability to use the second method shortly after the battle with each other, once they had received their new gundams, Freedom and Justice, respectively.
In the Second Battle of Jachin Due during the first war, Lacus Clyne may have entered SEED mode after a long philosophical soliloquy about the nature of warfare and death.
Shinn Asuka, the only new pilot in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny to achieve the SEED mode, always uses the first method in response to his rage over the events of the battle he is in at the time. The first way of entering SEED mode changes in Gundam SEED Destiny. When Shinn enters SEED mode it is shown that the SEED explodes (with more color) and zooms out from the eye. Kira becomes notably skilled in using the second method, entering SEED mode at or near the start of nearly every battle he fights. In addition, during the final episode of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny," Lacus Clyne's eyes dilate in a seed-like manner when she cries out to Kira during his battle with Rey.
Eligibility
Some fans think that only Coordinators have SEED abilities, which leads them to wonder if Cagalli Yula Athha is actually a Coordinator, but official sources such as Bandai's official website ( gundamofficial.com ) all specifically state Cagalli to be a Natural. Cagalli is the only Natural pilot shown to have SEED abilities.

This is a list of fictional superweapons from the Japanese science fiction franchise Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Nuclear technologies
After the Bloody Valentine War all military use of these technologies was banned by the Treaty of Junius. This did not, in practice, limit their use on the battlefield.
Neutron Jammer
The Neutron Jammer or N-Jammer is a device which suppresses nuclear fission reactions by electro-magnetic waves controlling the movement rate of free neutrons (it is possible for power-plants using nuclear fusion, which does not rely on neutron emission, which is unaffected by an N-Jammer, to generate power, however nuclear fusion weapons relies on a nuclear fission reaction to attain the correct temperature for fusion to occur, thus the N-Jammer works on nuclear fusion weapons as well). Its effective range is so great that even a handful of these devices are sufficient to cover the entire Earth, nullifying all nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants on the planet's surface. The N-Jammer also has the side effect of disrupting radio waves, severely restricting the range of radar and conventional communications, and for this reason space warships are equipped with these devices as an electronic countermeasure.
The N-Jammer was originally developed in the PLANTs under the supervision of Supreme Council member Orson White. These devices were first employed in the Bloody Valentine War during the Battle of Yggdrasil at the international space station Yggdrasil on February 22, CE 70. On April 1, CE 70, the ZAFT forces drove countless N-Jammers into Earth's surface as the first phase of their Operation Uroboros campaign. The nations of Earth, which had previously depended on nuclear fission as their primary power source, were plunged into a severe energy crisis called "April Fool's Crisis" as a result.
During the winter of CE 70, at least tens of millions of Naturals, mostly those from the third world countries, died on Earth because of lack of energy for heating and disruption of infrastructure due directly to the presence of N-Jammers on Earth.
When the Super Robot Wars series decided to include Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, some pointed out that the presence of N-Jammers would disable other nuclear-powered units. However, since all other Gundam series units use nuclear fusion for power and laser-activated nuclear warheads as weapons, N-Jammers would not affect them.
Neutron Jammer Canceller
The Neutron Jammer Canceller or N-Jammer Canceller (NJC)is a device used to cancel the effects of the ubiquitous N-Jammers.
ZAFT deployed Neutron-Jammers to disallow the Earth Alliance use of nuclear weaponry and reliable power generation. ZAFT also invented the Neutron Jammer Canceller to cancel this effect in order to use nuclear weapons and nuclear generators. This would mean nearly limitless supply of energy and a complete superiority over other battery powered mobile suits that had to be recharged periodically. N-Jammer Cancellers are first used in ZAFT's ZGMF-X10A Freedom and ZGMF-X09A Justice. Kira Yamato steals the Freedom, equipped with an ultracompact nuclear fission reactor and a N-Jammer Canceller, from a ZAFT base on a PLANT and headed to the JOSH-A base in Alaska on Earth, a flight requiring three days of constant operation, with no need to refuel. In fact, it's not clear that the ZGMF-X10A Freedom and ZGMF-X09A Justice were ever refueled during their operational lives. The "G.U.N.D.A.M" acronym for mobile suits equipped with a N-Jammer Cancellers are Generation Unsubdued Nuclear Drive Assault Module. However, the N-Jammer Canceller has a very limited range that only englobes the mobile suit's nuclear fission reactor and it does not cancel the wide range radio jamming effect of the N-Jammer, however, it acts as an ECCM device on the suits making them able to use radar technologies to seek and lock on other units, as performed in the multi-lock-on scene in the show. The AMF-103 DINN RAVEN also uses the N-Jammer Canceller.
The use of N-Jammer Canceller was banned by the Junius Seven Treaty from military use which ended the Bloody Valentine War thus banning the use of nuclear fission based weapons, but this treaty is later breached by the Earth Forces and later by ZAFT. However, N-Jammer Cancellers were installed at Earth nuclear plants, restoring their operations.
Neutron Stampeder
The Neutron Stampeder is an experimental defensive weapon designed by ZAFT to protect against nuclear attacks. The device is mounted on a , and is nearly as large as the ship itself. When activated, the Neutron Stampeder emits a massive energy wave, which causes any nuclear weapons to prematurely detonate. Unfortunately, the emitters fry themselves after firing, so the weapon can only be fired once.
The Neutron Stampeder was first fielded in CE 73, when it thwarted an Earth Alliance attempt to attack the PLANTs with nuclear missiles, causing the missiles to explode prematurely, also wiping out the Alliance attack fleet with it.
Hyper-Deuterion Nuclear Reactor
The Hyper-Deuterion Nuclear Reactor is a hybrid system created by ZAFT (and also used by the Clyne Faction) which combines a nuclear fission reactor with the deuterion technology. These two generators complement each other and thus in theory never power down. The deuterion system functions like a battery which stores the power coming from the nuclear fission reactor and then converts it into electricity. Thanks to this Hyper-Deuterion Nuclear Reactors are more powerful and efficient than conventional nuclear fission reactors. The Hyper-Deuterion Nuclear Reactor is currently used by the ZGMF-X3000Q Providence ZAKU, ZGMF-X42S Destiny, ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice and ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom. Despite all using the same reactor the "G.U.N.D.A.M" acronym for the Destiny and Legend is Gunnery United Nuclear-Deuterion Advanced Maneuver while the acronym for the Infinite Justice and Strike Freedom is Generation Unsubdued Nuclear Drive Assault Module complex.
The reason for the difference in the OS between the Destiny and Legend and the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice is because the Destiny and Legend were developed by ZAFT and received an operating system upgrade, based on the operating system of the Impulse, while the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice, which were developed by the Clyne Faction, kept, customized, and upgraded the operating system versions of the previous Freedom and Justice.
Note: The Destiny requires recharging aboard the Minerva due to its pilot Shinn Asuka over using the "Wings of light" whereas the Infinite Justice and Strike Freedom are never recharged aboard the Archangel and never run out of power.
GENESIS
GENESIS (Gamma Emission by Nuclear Explosion Stimulate Inducing System) is a huge gamma ray cannon built under the orders of Patrick Zala as ZAFT's ultimate weapon. GENESIS uses multiple nuclear devices with s to produce a massive burst of gamma radiation, which is reflected back by an external alignment mirror and focused by a second mirror into a laser beam. This laser is sufficiently powerful that if it were to hit the Earth, a great part of the surface would be destroyed and nearly all life on the planet would be exterminated. It causes human bodies closest to the shot to inflate and explode. The external mirror is severely damaged in the blast and must be replaced for another shot to be fired. GENESIS is also protected by multiple layers of Phase Shift armor and can be concealed by Mirage Colloid. The weapon is stationed behind the ZAFT space fortress Jachin Due and thus protected by not only the ZAFT garrison but by the satellite itself.
GENESIS is first deployed in September CE 71 after the nuclear attack of the Earth Alliance on ZAFT’s other space fortress, Boaz. With its first shot it destroys a great part of the Alliance’s fleet and thus forcing them to retreat for a short time. On the next day the superweapon fires its second shot on the Ptolemaeus lunar base not only destroying it completely but also wiping out over half of the Earth Alliance reinforcements fleet. The third shot is intended by Patrick Zala to fire on Earth (the target being Washington D.C., capital of the Atlantic Federation) but before it is able to fire, Patrick Zala was shot by one of his officers. Patrick’s son Athrun Zala flies his ZGMF-X09A Justice inside the weapon, where he detonates his mobile suit, thus destroying GENESIS shortly before it is able to emit the destructive burst. Only a small amount of energy is emitted which destroys the badly damaged ZGMF-X13A Providence.
Originally GENESIS was intended to be used as a propulsion system for ships to reach far away places in the solar system.
GENESIS Alpha
GENESIS Alpha is another GENESIS unit (perhaps created before the one used by Patrick Zala) which is at first under the command of ZAFT member Ash Grey. Like its sister unit it is equipped with multiple layers of Phase Shift and a Mirage Colloid cloaking device. Ash uses it to give his ZGMF-X11A Regenerate a boost which allows the suit to travel at very high speed. Nevertheless Ash is defeated and GENESIS Alpha is taken over by the Serpent Tail, who at first try to destroy it but later it becomes the base of the Junk Guild. The Junk Guild ship ReHOME uses it after the war to fly to Mars. At one point the Earth Alliance invaded GENESIS Alpha and found the ZGMF-X12A Testament in it, which they then took with them. In late CE 73, an alliance of the Junk Guild, the Serpent Tail and Rondo Mina Sahaku uses GENESIS Alpha in a failed attempt to avert the "Break the World" terrorist attack by pushing the remains of Junius Seven away from Earth. However, Ash Grey, now a brainwashed Earth Alliance pilot, uses the RGX-00 Testament's Mirage Colloid virus spreader to alter their targeting data, nearly causing the Junk Guild to fire GENESIS Alpha at Earth instead. While this potential disaster is averted, in a later battle Ash breaks free of his brainwashing and causes GENESIS Alpha to destroy an Earth Alliance base just before committing suicide. In response, the Alliance stages a full-scale attack on GENESIS Alpha, but the Junk Guild abandons the base, activating a self-destruct system to prevent its capture.
Neo-GENESIS
In CE 74, a third GENESIS unit is built within the ZAFT mobile space fortress Messiah, called Neo-GENESIS. It is smaller than the other two units but still packs a lot of power. Neo-GENESIS would be fired twice, once at the Orb Fleet attacking , which destroyed about half of the fleet, and the other at the Archangel and Eternal, which instead destroyed two Nazca-class battleships, the Albose and the Barton, both being part of ZAFT's Lunar fleet. Neo-GENESIS, alongside the mobile fortress Messiah, are destroyed at the end of Second Bloody Valentine War by Kira Yamato's ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom. A notable feature to Neo-GENESIS is that it's the only one out of all three units that does not require its mirror to be replaced, thus making it able to fire more rapidly than its predecessors. However, Neo-GENESIS still needs to be charged beforehand. Because of the lack of the need to replace the mirror and that it's mounted on the space fortress Messiah, the Neo-GENESIS is more mobile and thus more of a danger to any enemy troops due to it being able to reposition itself for better effect on the battlefield whilst firing at a much faster rate than earlier types.
High-powered microwaves
Cyclops System
The Cyclops System is a powerful microwave weapon devised by the Earth Alliance, which consists of a large array of dish emitters. Once activated, the Cyclops System rapidly heats the water that makes up about 70% of the human body, as well as the propellant and ammunition supplies of mobile suits. Ultimately the intense radiation heat will destroy even buildings and the array itself. To conceal these weapons, the Earth Alliance builds them beneath their own bases as a self-destruct mechanism. The Cyclops System was used twice during the Bloody Valentine War, once to destroy the Endymion Crater lunar base, which was being overrun by ZAFT forces, and once in a trap at the in Alaska during the Battle of JOSH-A, when Atlantic Federation leaders deliberately sacrificed their unwitting Eurasian Federation comrades to wipe out at least 80% of all ZAFT forces participating in the battle.
Nibelung
The Nibelung is a massive fixed anti-aircraft cannon positioned to defend , the Atlantic Federation military headquarters in Iceland. The Nibelung is concealed beneath a false mountain and, when revealed, points directly upward to target any units being dropped from space. It consists of a single tall spire within a concave array of mirrors, which scatter the beams fired from the spire into a wide cone that annihilates everything in flight above Heaven's Base. It is unknown how it really works but from the sight of it, it seems to be some sort of combination of ZAFT's GENESIS and the Cyclops System. The Nibelung is used to great effect against a ZAFT space drop operation during the Battle of Heaven's Base.

Requiem
Requiem, designated as an "Orbital All-Aspect Tactical Cannon", is a superweapon created by the Earth Alliance. Located at the Daedalus lunar base on the dark side of the moon, Requiem is a huge cannon that fires a pale green energy beam. Numerous relay stations, built from abandoned O'Neill cylinder space colonies with their end caps removed, use large Geschmeidig Panzer arrays to alter the beam's trajectory. Using different combinations of these arrays, Requiem can be fired at targets anywhere on the Earth and the PLANTs with deadly accuracy.
After Lord Djibril escaped from Orb to the Daedalus base, he intended to use this new weapon to wipe out the Supreme Council in PLANT's capital Aprilius One. However, one of the relay stations, Gounod, was discovered by a ZAFT task force led by Yzak Joule. Requiem was fired in the middle of the battle between the ZAFT task force and the Earth Alliance space fleet defending the Gounod relay station. Damage to the Gounod caused by the Joule Squadron slightly altered the trajectory of the beam, and as a result Requiem missed its intended target. Instead, the beam directly hit and destroyed Januarius 1 through 4 and caused December 7 and 8 to collapse, leading to the deaths of over a million Coordinators. Afterward, the Joule Squadron destroyed the Gounod relay station, but Requiem's design is such that other stations can still be used to aim its beam at PLANT. So ZAFT launched a heavy attack on another relay station (which was strongly protected by the Earth Alliance forces), while the Minerva attacked the Daedalus lunar base in order to destroy the Requiem itself. While Rey Za Burrel and Shinn Asuka of the Minerva destroyed the mobile units protecting the base, Lunamaria Hawke destroyed the control room of Requiem, killing the Earth Alliance operators just before they could fire the weapon again.
Afterwards ZAFT takes control over Requiem and uses it to destroy the Arzachel lunar base of the Earth Alliance as well as a some of their fleet. Also it is shown that the beam emitter is equipped with positron reflector units. However, it is unknown if this is part of the original Alliance design or if it is a new addition by ZAFT. Just before the next shot could be fired at Orb, the Requiem was destroyed by the ORB-01 Akatsuki and ZGMF-X19A Infinite Justice, when both units destroyed the main energy core.
The Requiem has five relay stations in total, and three of them are named "Gounod", "Fauré" and "Czerny". These names, given to the relay stations, are all from music composers who composed requiem masses, a religious music work for the dead, usually played during funerals.
