The Circus family name La Bonche was created in March 2012. It describes the participants of a North East of England-based youth Circus called Five Ring Circus. In March 2013 the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded a Young Roots grant to support the Five Ring Circus to research the Arthur Fenwick Collection of Circus ephemera at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, and to collect material from 1960 - to date on North East of England circus.
Launch
Five Ring Circus came into being as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Funding came from Legacy Trust UK in 2010 as a featured project. At its first Festival it worked with the Australian youth circus, Spaghetti Circus in July 2010. The ethos of the Five Ring Circus has been well described in the NE-Generation annual report of 2011. That report noted that "Five Ring Circus are passionately promoting youth circus across the (North East) region with weekly open access clubs".

Five Ring Circus is based in Circus Central in Christ Church, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne. Situated between the city centre and the artistic quarter of Ouseburn. Christ Church dates from 1861 and has in a partnership with Circus Central been awarded an English Heritage Grant to help preserve the building. "This Grade II* parish church dates from 1859-61 and was built by A.B. Higham."

J. Matthew Pinson is the president of Welch College in Nashville, Tennessee since 2002 and is the fifth to serve in that capacity following L.R. Ennis (1944-1947), Dr. L.C. Johnson (1947-1979), Dr. Charles Thigpen (1979-1990), and Dr. C. Thomas Malone (1990-2002). Prior to coming to Welch College, he pastored churches in Alabama, Connecticut, and Georgia. He is an alumnus of the University of West Florida, Yale Divinity School, Florida State University, and Vanderbilt University. Pinson is also a prolific author and has written numerous articles and books on the topic of Classical Arminian theology.
Theological Contribution
Pinson is known for his ardent Reformed Arminian theological stance, that he argues is to be distinguished from others construals of Arminianism, such as Wesleyan-Holiness Arminianism and Finney-typed revivalistic thinking which is often viewed as mainstream Arminianism. Pinson argues that Reformed Arminianism is a development and variety of Reformed Theology and is not necessarily a departure from it.
Despite common perceptions and caricatures today of Arminianism, Arminius followed Calvin in being an advocate of the penal substitutionary theory of atonement as well as arguing for the active and passive obedience of Christ while diverging with Calvin and other reformed theologians on soteriology. Whereas reformed theology developed doctrines of unconditional election and limited atonement, Pinson notes that Arminius argued that the righteousness of Christ is imputed to any and all sinners so long as the condition of personal faith has been exercised since "faith is necessary for Christ's righteousness to be imputed." A historian by training, Pinson has also written much on early General Baptist thinkers, including Thomas Helwys and Thomas Grantham.

Synopsis
