The Brough Family Organization is a non-profit ancestral family organization and surname association that researches and published information on the ancestors and descendants of the Broughs of the British Isles. According to its mission statement, the organization exists to “engage in genealogical and historical research throughout the world in behalf of the ancestors, descendants and relatives of the Broughs of the British Isles--with specific emphasis on the ancestors, descendants and relatives of Richard Brough and Mary Horleston of Staffordshire, England.” It is one of the largest and oldest non-profit ancestral family organizations in existence, having held family reunions in Utah, USA, since the 1890s.
The Brough Family Organization was first incorporated in Utah in 1969 as the Samuel Richard Brough Family Organization. In 1983 it was enlarged and changed its name to the Richard Brough Family Organization (RBFO)--after Richard Brough (1786-1873) who served for 17 years in the British army and was an early English convert to . Today the Brough Family Organization (BFO) operates under the direction and support of the RBFO--an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Publications, projects, and recognitions
Since 1980, the Brough Family Organization has published nearly a dozen books containing extensive genealogical data and historical information on the ancestors and descendants of the Broughs of the British Isles.
In the 1980s the Brough Family Organization was one of the first ancestral family organizations to provide its lineage-linked database for testing and inclusion in what eventually became known as the Ancestral File of the LDS Church. In 2010, the Brough Family Organization was listed by LDS FamilySearch as an exemplary ancestral family organization.
Currently the BFO conducts extensive research and specialized extraction projects on the genealogies and histories of many Brough families and their ancestors and descendants on four continents. It also sponsors an International Brough DNA Genealogy Project, produces genealogical and historical publications and videos, identifies military memorials, erects historical monuments, preserves ancient family documents, and encourages young people to get involved in family history work. Some of the genealogical activities and historical projects undertaken by the BFO and its members have been well publicized.
Membership
Membership in the Brough Family Organization is automatic and free for all descendants of the Broughs of the British Isles, who now number over 10,000 and are found in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States.
Reunions
The Brough Family Organization holds a reunion every five years in Utah, USA. In the 1890s it began holding grandparent family reunions, and in 1935 began holding ancestral family reunions.
In 2005 and 2010 the BFO held International Brough Reunions in Utah, USA, and in 2008 it held an International Brough Reunion in Staffordshire, England.

The Multiphysics Methods Group (MMG) is a program at Idaho National Laboratory (under the U.S. Department of Energy) begun in 2004. It uses modeling software to simulate complex physical and chemical reactions inside nuclear reactors. The ultimate goal of the program is to use these simulation tools to enable more efficient use of nuclear fuel, resulting in lower electricity costs and less waste products.
Members
The MMG is made up of 11 members, and is led by Glen Hansen. It coordinates efforts with other specialists in academia and industry.
However, INL's Multiphysics Methods Group is not the only group involved in advancing this field of study. At Los Alamos National Laboratory, similar technology and efforts are being used in applications such as modeling ocean circulation and even in better understanding the internal combustion engine.
Areas of study
The MMG focuses on problems within nuclear reactors related to its fuel and how heat is transferred inside the reactor. "Fuel degradation" refers to how uranium pellets and the rods they are encased in (several rods bundled together is what makes a "fuel assembly") eventually wear out over time due to high heat and irradiation inside a reactor.
It is also an important effort in better understanding and improving the abilities of computer modeling software that is used to predict this sort of degradation. The group states three main objectives: "The mission of the MMG is to support the INL goal to advance the U.S. nuclear energy endeavor by:
*Furthering the state of computational nuclear engineering
*Developing a robust technical basis in multidimensional multiphysics analysis methods
*Developing the next generation of reactor simulation codes and tools"
The work done by the group directly supports programs such as the Light Water Reactor Sustainability Program's research into advanced nuclear fuels.
