‘LOST’ ISLAND HISTORY
A Reference for following the islands historical events
The following listing is the account of all events that have taken place on the island in the Lost TV series, as based what’s been broadcast, including podcast info by the producers, a related official materials an canon sources.
There are no explanations as to how an why unknown events transpired, only that they did occur at some point, is documented.
Readers note :
* The sections which are actual series orientated are bullet-pointed,…
* However those matters that have a scientific explanation are considered as factual as the series appears to follow a science background.
* Real-world historical details are also considered as factual points as they’re more real than the series actual events.
* Technical points are included for matters relating engineering and construction.
INTRODUCTION
This WebPage cover the events that have occurred on the island setting where the Tv series ‘Lost’ is set, so that viewers or those wanting to know how things have come to pass, can more clearly understand the pithy and complex history that forged the series basis for drama. To this end, it is written via in-universe style to give it genuine context and be self-referencing.
This page is designed to be less fancraft and more technical and historical. It is written from a scientific viewpoint regarding the known series details, in terms of what’s technically possible given what’s depicted in each episode. The time occurrence of events when they not calculable or stated, are deduced from when they appeared before certain other aspects within the series.
The run-down contains key events that determined the islands status of the when the series was set, but not minor inter-personal matters. Newly broadcast and official details, when known of, are later used to augment the pages details with better accuracy. Furthermore, this account does not cover trivial matters of like who kissed who, or who found what building.
PRE-HISTORY
PREHISTORICAL TO HANSO ERA,
A precursor type era which covers what island life was like before commercially driven organisations took interest in the island.
60 > 40,000,000 BC (tertiary period)
* During planet earths early geologic history, the tectonic plate beneath the pacific ocean was more fluid in movement, due to being fragmented into smaller plates. Two of these adjacent plates had a peak which formed 2 separate islands within the pacific ocean above it. Over much time the plates beneath both these islands were forced together by volcanic activity to form a convergent boundary. This ended up merging both island masses together into one larger island, which is why there are 2 mountain ridges along the island, with a basin area between them - which was formerly the shores of each's coastline. This blend of geology may have created the unique effects than came to emanate from the island. (ref: extrapolation from Plate tectonics in ‘encyclopaedia Britannica’)
Future-point: the flatness of the central basin area and its wind shielding from the surrounding mountains, made it the perfect spot for a settlement to be built within, as was eventually done in the 1970s.
----
50,000 BC
* A large meteor blasts through the atmosphere of planet earth, then strikes the southern peninsula of the island.
This fallen object may be one of several fragments, with another piece landing in the Arizona desert of north America - hence the meteor crater there. With the meteor possibly being of the metallic variety, the heavy impact of its high-density iron-core may have spread some of its content into the vicinity, which then fused into the surrounding rock-bed. This is possible as some meteors are carbon-ferrous, then again, the islands unique geologic properties maybe entirely native. The above impact date is based upon the Arizona crater, an the fragmentation is based upon the shoemaker-levy comet break-up of 1992.
Future-point: the odd readings from below the ground that the Dharma Initiative would later build the Swan station on top of, may have been caused by the meteors impact, as its not too far away.
----
1200 > 1400 AD
* Early Polynesian sailors, while exploring the sea around them, or looking for new land to colonize, eventually come across the ‘island’, or possibly drift to shore after surviving a sea-storm. They settle there as they normally would any where similar, due to its fertile soil and crop-friendly weather supporting their existence there.
* They eventually form an early civilisation, and mark this by building in stone a central meeting place for cultural purposes to perform tribal rituals at, as in keeping with other contemporary tribes, like those on Easter island. This communal place has a stone column on a platform at one end, for use as when tying people to for sacrificial rituals, or as a focal point for public addressing at village gatherings. This is built west of the islands centre.
* They later carve a 4-toed foot-shaped sculpture out of a boulder-sized coastal stone, so as to inform those sailing past that they reside there, as like a welcoming-sign, or if not the opposite, as like a warning. Alternatively, their stone-masons may have sculptured it from an inland stone, after which the tribes-people could have gradually moved it to a more visible location, so outsiders might notice it when nearing the island, ie- the western coastline. They also build a stone window-frame looking monument on a centrally-located hillside, possibly as a time clock for when the suns rays would shine through at dusk and dawn, as like a sundial.
* They also build a subterranean passageways beneath the islands centre, whose entrance is arched with stone bricks. They also carve iconic symbols on the surrounding stonework an door slab.
* They build a stone temple in the south-east, with a height of 10 meters.
* They build a water-well an place several stone monoliths around it. The wells bottom leads to a small cavern which houses a horizontal wooden wheel, which controls the output from a high energy source behind it. NB- its unknown if these first island visitors built this internal mechanism
1845
* In march, Magnus Hanso buys a merchant ship called the ‘black rock’ - and sails with it after leaving Portsmouth dock in England, as part of a trading mission to Siam, as in the Asian far-east.
* During this ships voyage, it becomes lost in a firece sea-storm, that ends up washing it inland, till it settles in the middle-south of the island. Though the ships log, is lost in the commotion, it’s later found by pirates. After Magnus Hanso dies his crew bury his body near the ships wreck.
* Future-point 1: the owner of this vessel is a direct ancestor of Alvar Hanso, who next century would have a serious interest in the island.
Error correction:
Though, in-series, the ship has been called a British slave-trading ship, it can’t be as the Victorians of the British empire banned the slave trade in 1833, hence this ship wouldn’t have been allowed to dock in port, or set-sail from Britain, if it was still engaged in an illegal business.
----
1928
* The mathematician Enzo Valenzetti is born on the Italian island of Sardinia - whose theory would later become the basis for a Dharma research study on the island over a century later. This Valenzetti equation is a mathematical theory which is hoped can reveal the date upon which the world will end, as after many years of human conflict and international tension. (reference: ‘The Lost Experience’ game)
NB: even though the Valenzetti equation is fictional, its calculation principle would be similar to chaos theory.

1937
* July 2nd - pilot Amelia Earhart and co-pilot Fred Noonan, while flying across the pacific, disappear. This event is well known in aviation history, an their planes flight path was said to cross the south-pacific. Based upon the 5th season, it seems their plane crossed the islands location while it was in a state of movement. After they arrived they probably lived out their days together after finding a cave dwelling with a fresh-water supply nearby, which eventually become their final resting place.
* Future-point: their skeletal remains were found on the 23rd of September 2004, by a Dr. Jack Sheppard.
----
1939 > 1945
* During world war two, Alvar Hanso founded a profitable business by providing military supplies to various resistance movements around Europe. From this success led to supply contracts for the American navy. (Ref: The Lost Experience video game)
* With the south pacific ocean becoming an area of intense fighting between Japanese and allied navies, eventually a naval warship may have come across the island.
Future-point: the Hanso company supply-line possibly stretched as far south as the southern pacific ocean, so as to aid the allied forces war effort, particularly the USA, as when this nation would end up fighting the Japanese navy in that part of the world - which is where the island sometimes appears. Furthermore, the money that Mr Hanso generated from this business venture, would later go towards financing a large project on the island, as he was the project donator.
----
1954
* The US-army designate the island as test ground for an atom bomb detonation, as follow-on from the Manhattan project. They eventually build a test-rig to suspend an a-bomb from, which is codenamed ‘jughead’.
* A band of part English an American people, who were already living on the island, make attempts to force the encroaching army leave the island.
NB: for a site to be picked out from many pacific islands, the army must of done a primarily survey before deeming it viable to their needs. In which case their findings would reveal…

‘’’NOTES ON THE ISLAND HISTORY PAGES’’’
‘’’Interpretation’’’
The purpose then of this page, is to aid the understanding of how the main events on the island came to take place, especially as the islands history is so complex that it foreshadows all that takes place on it in the present time. Therefore by appreciating the series back-story, one can better relate to what is broadcast in each episode.
The unofficial extra information is present to link all the known events together, so that those wishing to know how matters may have preceded one an other, can ascertain the reasons behind the sequence of events, and appreciate their repercussions. This extra info may not be factual, as yet, but certainly is probable, given writers don’t write arbitrarily, but with a direction of logical reasoning. For this way the missing aspects of the series can be uncovered by estimating what generally possible. Although, as new information comes to light, then this will be used to adjust and update the contents here.
For when a heavily mysterious series offers a lack of information, it may lead to some becoming so confused that their interest would wane to the point they eventually stop watching, which is why the viewing figures for the ‘Twin Peaks’ mystery-drama series fell sharply after the first dream sequence occurred. But the writers of the Lost Tv show aren’t that enigmatic, as they provide progressive answers per episode. However given how long the islands pre-history was before the series main characters got there, means there’s much that remains unexplained, an this colours the series events due to their significance, though at least here these missing points are presented in a connecting fashion of some explanation rather than none whatsoever.
To conclude, these estimations may end up representing what the shows executive producers have already structured for themselves already, as referencing material, so they can pace the episodic delivery of historical fact, as over the set amount of remaining seasons. Hence, some information here may contain spoilers, though accidentally so, for if any of the estimations turn out to be generally correct.

The is a year long ministry training program run by CE National, an organization under the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches. The 412 commission is run out of a local church and receives credits from a college's distance Learning Program. The 412 Commission was started in the 2005-2006 school year, and will end after the 2007-2008 year. During the course of the year, students travel to locations across the US, Mexico City, Israel, and Canada as part of their training. The name "412 Commission" is based on 1 Timothy 4:12: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity." The name is used in reference to the fact that even though the students are young, they should be well enough equipped by the end of the year to be a leader and teacher, not just an absorber of information.
Life
During the year that a student attends the 412 Commission, He/she is housed in either a host home or, in some cases, a dorm. For the duration of the year, the student is not allowed to work, full or part time, as the student must focus entirely on his/her studies. This poses financial problems; however, it is believed that this is best. A 412 graduate will receive a plaque with his or her name on it. This plaque carries no actual weight other than declaring that the student has gone through the program. It does carry weight in the Grace Brethren circles since it does signify that the student underwent a considerable amount of one on one discipleship and ministry training, as well as quality Bible education.
Rules
A Student of the 412 Commission, must not:
1. Drink any alcohol for the duration of the year.
2. Smoke, or chew, or otherwise consume tobacco for the duration of the year.
3. Consume in any way, any kind of illegal drug for the duration of the year.
