Beard Fanzine was founded by Stewart Smith and Neil Jaques in Glasgow, following "much inebriated talk and subliminal musical influences".
• Beard #1 was launched in the Summer of 2003.
• Beard #2 saw Beard win the 2005 EMAP Fanzine award for best music fanzine.
It has quickly become a cult magazine and is popular with musicians, artists and hipsters alike.
In addition to giving underground Scottish acts like Park Attack, Lucky Luke and Hookers Green No1 their first in-depth press, we’ve ran rare interviews with cult legends Robert Wyatt and Shirley Collins. We bagged the first interview with US songwriter Daniel Johnston ahead of the acclaimed documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston and interviewed mystery novelist and country singer Kinky Friedman as he kicked off his thwarted bid to become governor of Texas. Other artists we have interviewed include Devendra Banhart, Alisdair Roberts, Mogwai, Sons & Daughters and star of Emmy-nominated comedy Mystery Science Theatre 3000, Mike Nelson.
May 2007 will see the publication of the long-awaited Beard #6. This bumper edition will feature interviews with resurgent folk spirit Vashti Bunyan, indie greats Silver Jews, Giant Sand maestro Howe Gelb, singer-songwriter Nina Nastasia, anti-folkster Jeffrey Lewis, Glasgow indie-pop heroes BMX Bandits, and British folk guitar deity John Renbourn. We also speak to underground comix legend and Spongebob writer Kaz.. Continuing our commitment to the most exciting new Scottish acts we chat to electro-pop mischief makers Gay Against You and rabble-rousing indie rockers Dananananaykroyd, and review the most thrilling live acts from Glasgow and beyond.

Beard, Glasgow’s finest zine, and VGB concerts present an unforgettable all day musical extravaganza!
Not just a standard gig but an event, with bands, solo artists, exhibitionists and nutters let loose in Glasgow’s newest venue, the 500 capacity Regal Social Club. Inspired by inclusive community ethos of the Green Man Festival, 1960s happenings at the UFO club and the diverse programming of Glasgow festivals as Triptych and Instal, there will be DJs, talks, projections and original art work.
