Block kuzushi (ブãƒãƒƒã‚¯å´©ã?— burokkukuzushi, literally block destruction) is the name given in Japan to the genre of computer and video games in which blocks are destroyed by a bouncing ball, and the player controls a paddle at the bottom of the screen to keep the ball in play. The first example of such a game was Breakout, although Arkanoid is arguably more popular. Since this is a fairly narrow definition of a genre, it is often not considered as such (especially outside of Japan), and games of this type are usually simply referred to as "Breakout clones".
A number of block kuzushi games were released in Japan under the title Block Kuzushi, including members of D3 Publisher's Simple series and a Color TV Game system by Nintendo. However, this is a generic name referring to the genre (similar to a tennis game being called Tennis). The games titled Block Kuzushi are all distinct games and should not be considered as a series.

Evolution games are life simulation computer and video games in which the player takes control of the evolution of species, often having the objective of developing (simulated) sentience.

A grand strategy game is a strategy game or wargame that places focus on grand strategy: military strategy at the level of movement and use of an entire nation state or empire's resources. Such games typically focus on a war or series of wars, often over a long period of time. Individual units, even armies, may not be represented; instead, attention is given to theaters of operation. All of the resources of the nations involved may be mobilized as part of a long-term struggle. The simulation typically involves political and economic as well as military conflict. At the most extreme end of this is the branch of strategy games in which the player assumes the role of the government of an entire nation-state and in which not conducting war is a possibility. Due to its complexity, this is rarely seen outside of computer games.
Examples of grand strategy games where military tactics are highly abstracted or eliminated entirely include the board games Risk and Diplomacy, and the video games Europa Universalis, Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun, Hearts of Iron and Supreme Ruler 2010.
