Zebediah Dingle

Zebediah Judas Dingle is a fictional character from the British soap opera Emmerdale, portrayed by . The character first appeared briefly in 1994, but returned two years later as a full-time character from 1996 to 1999. He has since returned as a guest in 2002, a regular from 2004 to 2006 and made another guest return in 2011. Zebediah has been involved in varius storylines, such as his feud with his older brothers, his battle with diabetes and becoming paralysed from the waist down.
Creation and development
Storylines
Zebediah was the youngest of the six sons of Jedediah and Peg Dingle, and had five older brothers Shadrach, Albert, Zak, Caleb and Ezra Dingle. Zebediah gre apart from his elder brothers and from his father as his childhood progressed, and so bonded more with his mother Peg and his uncle Bert Dingle. Zebediah soon began to suffer at the hands of his elder brother Ezra, but before long his other brothers stood up for him against Ezra.
When Zebediah grew up he got his degree in mechanical engineering, and in 1977 he married his childhood sweetheart Colleen Gascoigne. The couple moved to West Kensington, where Colleen grew up. There they shed two daughters Lilith Dingle (born 1978) and . In 1994, Lilith became a mother at sixteen to Zebediah's first grandson Luke Dingle. The same year, Zebediah made his first appearance in Beckindale to pay his respects to his nephew and Zak's son Ben Dingle, who collapsed and died during a fight. However, Zebediah stayed clear of his brothers to avoid any conflict. Before long Lilith gave birth to two more children at the age of 18, twins Matthew and Mark in 1996.
In 1996, Zebediah returned to Beckindale with Colleen and moved into Shepards Cottage. Zebediah visited Zak and revealed that he was there to clear the air between them.
