Zara Stone is a journalist and television presenter.
Early life and education
Zara Stone was born in London, England on 30 April 1988. She attended the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University, New York, from 2012 - 2013. Her graduate school thesis, The K-Pop Plastic Surgery Obsession, was published by the The Atlantic in May 2013. A follow up about surgery in South Korean high schools was published by The Atlantic in June 2013. She appeared on Arise: Our Take, with Christina Brown, to discuss her work. Her story has been referenced many times, including scholarly published books, papers, university courses, and journals.
Journalism career
As a journalist, She is noted for covering technology, beauty, and culture for publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC News, Wired Magazine, Vice, NPR, ABC News, The Washington Post, OZY Media, The New York Post, and OneZero amongst others. She has interviewed technology personalities such as Steve Wozniak and was a moderator at the Good Food Conference in San Francisco, California. She has been interviewed by the podcast Spirit 608, Response Source, NRA Radio, BBC Radio 3, The Gorkana Group,Michael Finney's KGO Radio show, and more, about her reporting style and methodology. She is a member of the San Francisco’s Writers Grotto.
Television
Early in her career, she was a YouTube host and presenter for Shiny Media, a venture capital funded now defunct blogging network, where she covered technology and lifestyle for many of their websites, including Shiny Shiny, a technology website for women, and beauty blog Kiss and Makeup. She gave video reports from trade shows, including IFA in Berlin, Germany, and CES in Las Vegas, Nevada Her videos were popular, one on the Nikon D90 has 158,663 and one on the SuperSmoker has 424,000 views on YouTube as of November 19, 2019. She followed this with guest sports on SKY News and The BBC, and freelance video work for The BBC, where she reported or commentated on technology trends, lifestyle, and culture. She made her US television debut on the ABC News and Univision joint venture TV channel Fusion, where she covered technology, plastic surgery, and social justice. Later she produced video for Forbes, including video stories on The Fancy Food Show and interviewed Steve Wozniak.
