YTS is a website that provides torrent files and magnet links to facilitate peer-to-peer file sharing using the BitTorrent protocol. YIFI-Torrents.com, was founded in 2011 by YIFY, a piracy release group. As of October 5, 2013 YIFY was one of the top ten most-visited torrent sites on the Internet functioning both as a release and distribution group, as well as running its own site. In November 2013 the site was blocked in the UK as a part of a court order aimed at a number of high profile pirate sites. In January 2014 the site was renamed to YTS in response to its founder retiring. An interview with TorrentFreak in February 2014 revealed a sophisticated network architecture designed to circumvent site blocking and provide site resilience and privacy. In March YIFY took control of controversial Popcorn Time streaming media application after it was taken down by its original developers. YIFY torrents ranked as the fifth most popular source for torrents in 2014, according to TorrentFreak. |
