Younes Asakere () was an Iranian Arab citizen who committed self-immolation after his shop was seized by the municipal government of Khorramshahr in March 2015, in front of the municipal building. Younes was born in Hijri, and lived in Khorramshahr, working as a peddler. When he requested permission from the municipality of Khorramshahr to open a fruit stand, he received several rejections. He decided to commit self-immolation in the middle of the municipality’s hall. The goods confiscated from his stand were later put up for sale. Younes suffered burns to 80% of his body. Deputy Governor of Khouzestan said in response that "Younes’ action inhumane and illicit". In addition, he said that "The county will be decisive in taking action against any who portray negligence and failure to comply with the rule of Islamic law." Younes was taken to the Taleghani hospital in Ahwaz after the self-immolation. Life Younes had been running a fruit stand in the Khorramshahr Bazaar with his brother for some years. This was their only source of income. Younes was married and had two children. A while before his immolation, Younes requested permission from the municipality to open a permanent booth, but his request was ignored by the city council three times. His last request, on March 14, at 7:45 AM, was ignored again. As a result, he became angry, bought 1.5 liters of gasoline from a gas station, and threatened self-immolation. His threats were ignored and he lit himself on fire.
