Yoowalk is a flash-based virtual world directly accessible from your browser where you can surf a live 3D representation of the web with a personalized avatar. Websites are converted into isometric 3D walksites and are categorized on streets for avatars to walk around. Users walk around a village of websites where they can see and interact with others in real time. Additional features of the site include a messenger compatible with AIM, MSN, and Yahoo! messengers and personal rooms for users to share their favorite photos, music, and videos with friends.
Background Yoowalk is a private venture launched from France. It is funded by CITA Gestion and business angels. Xavier Marvaldi developed the concept early in 2006, when he was the CEO of M6web, entity in charge of multimedia activities at M6, a French TV channel. In October 2006, Yoowalk was created and the site began its initial phases of design and development. The idea behind Yoowalk was finally introduced to the public on an international scale at LeWeb3, a conference showcasing innovative Internet start ups from around the world. At this event, Yoowalk was chosen among hundreds of companies as one of the top 30 start ups of the year.
