Yap Kwong Weng is a non-profit leader, author and director. Formerly a Commando Officer, he was honored as a Young Global Leaderof the World Economic Forum of the World Economic Forum in 2012 and is Singapore's first Rotary Peace Fellow. Mr Yap is a TED speaker and has been featured on ChannelNews Asia, AsiaOne, The Straits Times, 93.8 Live and AugustMan magazine among others. He is the Country Chair of Global Dignity Cambodia where he forwards the principles of Dignity to Cambodians Education Yap received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Manchester and graduated with a Master of Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy where he was also awarded the Distinguished Leadership Award. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Career Highlights From 2011 to 2013, Yap was the Secretary-General of the United Nations Association of Singapore, the country's main non-profit organisation responsible for creating awareness of UN ideals. In 2012, he was named a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum and was a recipient of the JCI Young Outstanding Singaporean Award (2011) for his contributions to society. Yap was also selected as Singapore’s first Rotary Peace Fellow by Rotary International and was awarded the Bhichal Rattakul scholarship. Yap is also an avid commentator and speaker on social and global issues. He has contributed to newspapers, academic journals and community seminars. In his military career, Yap Kwong Weng served as a Commando officer, formulating strategies and policies with the Commando Training Institute. He graduated from the US Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL course (Class 237), a Ranger and freefall parachutist. After serving as a commando officer, he moved on to serve as a defense analyst for the intelligence directorate of Singapore.
