The Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a national level aptitude test conducted in India by XLRI (formerly known as Xavier Labour Relations Institute), a business school in Jamshedpur in the state of Jharkhand in India, as an entrance test for its and other highly reputed institutes, including Xavier Institute of Management and Goa Institute of Management programmes. Pattern XAT 2013 was a three-hour-long exam. It was divided into an initial section of 2 hours and 20 minutes, consisting of multiple-choice questions that tested Quantitative Ability (Mathematics), Verbal Ability (English) and Data Interpretation/Logical Reasoning skills and a final section of 40 minutes which contained General Awareness questions and an Essay question. The XAT is quite similar to the conducted by the IIMs, except that the CAT has no Essay and General Awareness sections. XLRI Jamshedpur has about 240 seats in its flagship BM (Business Management) and PMIR (Personnel Management and Industrial Relations) programmes and 120 seats in its flagship 15 months full-time residential GMP (General Management Program). The PMIR program has been renamed HRM (Human Resource Management). Apart from XLRI, 121 other institutes accept XAT scores for selection of candidates to their respective programmes. XAT 2011 was one of hardest MBA entrance exams in India and candidates were surprised to note differential marking (1 marks to 5 marks)(Maximum Marks:252). XAT 2012, held on 8 January 2012 had fewer questions in all three sections (Decision Making:25, Quantitative Ability:32 and Verbal Ability:28). XAT 2012 (Maximum Marks:100) also had differential marking with questions allotted marks either 1, 1.5 or 2. In XAT 2014, a correct answer was awarded 1 mark and an incorrect answer was penalised .25 marks. The result of XAT comes in last week of January. However NRI and foreign candidates may apply through GMAT score( except Dubai and Kathmandu where in candidates have option of appearing for XAT). * Global Business Management (GBM): This one-of-a-kind programme, offered in partnership with the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA) and School of Economics & Management at Tongji University (Shanghai, China) constitutes a various class of Indian, American and Chinese students. Students will be taught by faculty drawn from each of the three partner schools and spend a semester each in Shanghai, Cleveland and Jamshedpur. Eligibility: Recognised Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration or equivalent in any discipline. Those completing their final examination by June 10, 2016 may also apply. Candidates with an experience of 3 years or more will be given preference for Global Business Management. All students( Indian/NRI/Foreign) Candidates may apply either through XAT or GMAT score. * General Management Programme (GMP): The General Management Program aims at augmenting the skill-sets and competencies of practicing managers, which introduce them to recent trends, tools and techniques in Management would prepare them to improve performance. This 15 month, full time AICTE recognized course incorporates a 3-month field based training in a functional area. Eligibility: Recognised bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in India/abroad with at least 5 years of managerial/supervisory experience by March 31, 2016. Candidates may apply either through XAT or GMAT score.
