Written In Ashes is a darkwave/gothic band from Portland, Oregon founded in 1996 by Kevyn Douglas Hay. Their first recording Eternal was released in 1997 and hailed as "the new sound of Gothic". This was followed by the releases of Eclipse in 1999 and Epiphany in 2000. There have been tertiary appearances on compilations such as Cleopatra Records' Unquiet Grave, Volume 1 in 1999 and Ankhor Records' Alice Cooper Tribute Mutations in 2002. The band reemerged in 2004 on nationally distributed Latex Records with the strongest material to date with its self-titled release Written In Ashes. The band's current line-up contains founding member Kevyn Douglas Hay along with stage and studio veterans, Damon Law of theStark and sexwithsarah, Christopher Hyde of Grindstone, Lawrence Anders and T.J. Hamilton of The Dead Stars on Hollywood, and The Gentry. Written in Ashes has played with Faith and the Muse, Gitane Demone, Floater, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Switchblade Symphony, Audra, The Crüxshadows, Bella Morte, Seraphim Shock, Voltaire, Collide, and Impotent Sea Snakes. The band released the EP "Life" in Fall 2006 during their tour of Southern California, playing Dave Bats' legendary Release The Bats party in Long Beach, the next night returning to Hollwood Blvd. with a show at Bar Sinister. The Life EP features the single "Life" as well as many remixes done by the band members themselves. The "Life" EP also contains the song "You", and two remixes. The "Life" EP has been getting consistent air play on Portland, Oregon commercial alternative radio station 94.7 KNRK. Written In Ashes is currently recording new material for their next album and playing select shows.
